WAS Operations & Reliability Engineer (WebLogic/Tomcat)
Responsible for WebLogic and Tomcat platform stability, performance, and migration initiatives.
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled WAS Operations & Reliability Engineer (WebLogic/Tomcat) to join our client's IT Operations team. The successful candidate will primarily manage WebLogic servers, while also supporting Tomcat environments, refining design, testing, implementation, installation, operation, troubleshooting, and optimization, and supporting and maintaining the integrity and security of both the existing and any new WebLogic platforms, as needed. In addition to operations and monitoring, this role includes participation in WebLogic-to-Tomcat migration projects, ensuring system stability, performance, and reliability throughout the transition.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and optimize WebLogic operations to ensure high availability and performance.
- Support Tomcat operations and participate in WebLogic-to-Tomcat migration initiatives.
- Support JBoss Servers and J2EE applications.
- Design, configure, and maintain dashboards, alerts, and automated responses for proactive issue detection across WebLogic and Tomcat environments.
- Analyze logs and metrics to identify root causes and implement preventive solutions.
- Collaborate with DevOps and development teams to improve monitoring coverage and reliability of WAS-based applications.
- Develop automation scripts or tools (Java, Python, Shell) to enhance observability and operational efficiency.
- Provide Java/J2EE/Web Application deployment and production support.
- Respond effectively to system incidents and ensure timely resolution.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of WAS system observability, scalability, and fault tolerance.
- Provide off-hours support as needed
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in WebLogic and Tomcat or JBoss operations.
- Understanding and exposure to web servers such as IIS, iPlanet and Apache HTTP Server.
- Understanding and exposure to Windows, and Linux.
- Strong knowledge or experience for WebLogic/Tomcat Administration with expertise in Installation, Configuration, Tuning, troubleshooting and Deploying application.
- Strong experience with Prometheus, Grafana, Elasticsearch, and Kibana for monitoring WAS environments.
- Proficiency in Java and familiarity with Python or Shell scripting.
- Experience in migration projects from WebLogic to Tomcat is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of Kafka-based log pipelines is preferred.
- Experience in Kubernetes or containerized environments is a plus.
- Understanding of CI/CD pipelines, cloud infrastructure, and DevOps best practices.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with effective incident response capabilities across WAS platforms.
Desired Skills
- WebLogic Server, Apache Tomcat and Red Hat JBoss experience
- Understanding and exposure to high-availability architecture
- Evaluate and recommend changes to enhance platform reliability such as monitoring, tools, process and best practices.
- Solid understanding of J2EE concepts and implementations
