About the Job You're Considering

The Manufacturing Sector Business Technology Architect is a strategic technology leader serving as a trusted advisor to C-suite and senior operations and technology executives. This role defines and governs enterprise architecture strategy across complex, multi-domain landscapes including business, data, application, operational technology, and infrastructure, and translates executive priorities into actionable roadmaps, target-state architectures, and transformation programs.

You will work with some of the world's most respected manufacturers, including automotive OEMs and suppliers, aerospace and defense companies, industrial equipment producers, consumer goods companies, and chemical and process manufacturers. These clients are navigating the shift to digital operations, smart manufacturing, and connected supply chains - while managing the complexity of legacy systems, OT/IT convergence, and global regulatory requirements.

Typical areas of engagement include Smart Factory and Industry 4.0 transformations, Manufacturing Execution System modernization, supply chain resilience and planning, asset performance management, product lifecycle management, and enterprise ERP programs such as SAP S/4HANA migrations. You will help clients move from fragmented, plant-level systems toward integrated, data-driven manufacturing enterprises.

Business Architects define and structure the business strategy, capabilities, services, governance, organizational domains and key business processes. They align goals and objectives with products, processes, services, partners and suppliers to optimise the enterprise organisation, its capabilities and initiatives. The key focus is on the e2e value delivery, the business operations and business motivations linking the enterprise networks together.

Business Architects define and ensure a comprehensive and coherent view across business domains, from strategy to execution. They model and create organisational value capabilities, structures and maps to optimise transformation and change, operational value delivery and a rationalised and sustainable IT.

Preferred hiring locations: Atlanta, Nashville, Dallas, Houston, Chicago, and NYC area.

Your Role

  • Own the design, delivery, and governance of enterprise architecture solutions including capability-based roadmaps, target-state architectures, and reference architectures across manufacturing and operational domains.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to CIO, CTO, COO, and senior plant and operations leaders, translating business and operational strategy into executable technology and architecture direction.
  • Translate manufacturing business outcomes - improved OEE, reduced unplanned downtime, faster time to market, supply chain cost reduction, and sustainability targets - into architectural requirements and platform decisions.
  • Define and govern architecture standards, principles, patterns, and review processes that span IT and OT environments and enable scalable, secure, and interoperable solutions.
  • Lead architecture strategy for core manufacturing programs including Smart Factory, MES/MOM modernization, ERP transformation, PLM, and connected supply chain initiatives.
  • Drive OT/IT convergence strategies, helping clients integrate plant-floor systems, IIoT platforms, edge computing, and enterprise data environments into coherent architectures.
  • Serve as Design Authority across complex programs, ensuring architectural integrity across applications, data platforms, integration layers, and operational technology.
  • Lead vendor architecture assessments and RFP support including solution evaluation criteria, target-state alignment, and integration and security considerations.
  • Identify, shape, and help close new opportunities within the account by linking client challenges to high-value, multi-year transformation initiatives.
  • Support executive workshops, roadmap definition, RFPs, and strategic pursuits by articulating clear technology visions and value propositions tied to operational outcomes.
  • Collaborate with cloud, platform, and ecosystem partners - including SAP, Siemens, PTC, Rockwell, and hyperscalers - to accelerate innovation and delivery.

Your Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
  • 12+ years of experience in enterprise architecture, solution architecture, or senior technology leadership roles, with meaningful exposure to manufacturing or industrial clients.
  • Proven experience working directly with executive and operational stakeholders in large, complex manufacturing organizations.
  • Strong background in modern enterprise architectures including cloud (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud Platform), integration, data platforms, APIs, and IIoT ecosystems.
  • Proven leadership of architecture teams or cross-functional technical initiatives spanning IT and OT environments.
  • Ability to influence senior decision makers and connect technology decisions to measurable operational and business outcomes.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing-specific platforms and standards such as SAP S/4HANA, MES/MOM systems, PLM tools (e.g., Teamcenter, Windchill), ISA-95, and Industry 4.0 frameworks (preferred).
  • Experience with OT/IT convergence, industrial networking, edge computing, or IIoT platform architecture (preferred).
  • Consulting or advisory background supporting large-scale digital or operational transformation programs in manufacturing or industrial sectors (preferred).
  • Familiarity with enterprise architecture frameworks such as TOGAF (preferred).
  • Strong commercial and growth mindset with experience shaping and supporting strategic pursuits (preferred).
