ABSC has an exciting opening for you, our next Systems Engineer, supporting the Air Force National Capital Region Information Technology Services program, known as AFNCR ITS-2. This program provides enterprise IT operations, engineering, cybersecurity, and mission support to Air Force customers throughout the National Capital Region.

In this role, you will design, implement, manage, and monitor mission-critical information systems within the National Military Command Center (NMCC). You will work alongside systems administrators, cybersecurity professionals, multimedia engineers, telecommunications engineers, third-party vendors, and Government stakeholders to develop and implement secure and reliable technical solutions.

The ideal candidate will bring extensive VMware, Windows Server, Linux, systems integration, and technical project execution experience. You must be comfortable developing project schedules and implementation plans, documenting work in Remedy, and briefing technical status, problems, and solutions to Government and DoD personnel.

This position is 100% onsite at the Pentagon in Arlington, VA, Monday through Friday, during core hours between 6:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Ad-hoc telework may occasionally be available based on Government approval and mission requirements.

Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To:
  • Design, implement, manage, and monitor existing and new information systems within the NMCC
  • Work alongside systems administrators responsible for NMCC information systems
  • Analyze system requirements and collaborate with multiple engineering teams to develop effective technical solutions
  • Draft and review Engineering Installation Plans for IT requirements supporting the NMCC
  • Establish baseline hardware and software configurations for NMCC IT networks and systems
  • Assist systems administrators with system implementation, security, privileges, patching, updates, and recurring maintenance activities
  • Design, build, manage, and maintain comprehensive VMware environments
  • Support the migration of virtual machines from Hyper-V to VMware
  • Implement advanced VMware capabilities, including High Availability and Fault Tolerance
  • Administer Windows Server 2019 and 2022 domain environments, including Active Directory and Group Policy
  • Administer Linux operating systems, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux and CentOS
  • Support Veeam Backup & Replication environments to maintain system protection, resilience, and availability
  • Work closely with cybersecurity teams to harden systems in accordance with DISA guidance and cybersecurity best practices
  • Apply Secure Technical Implementation Guide hardening requirements and support cybersecurity risk-management activities
  • Develop, execute, and document test plans, test schedules, and scripted or automated testing activities
  • Troubleshoot server, application, infrastructure, and system-integration issues
  • Document solutions to recurring technical issues and contribute to the team's internal knowledge base
  • Work directly with third-party vendors to evaluate and integrate IT solutions with mission-critical NMCC systems
  • Coordinate with systems administration, multimedia engineering, telecommunications engineering, cybersecurity, and other technical teams
  • Develop schedules and timelines for technical work and present them to leadership for review
  • Create and maintain system documentation, standard operating procedures, reports, project schedules, and presentation materials
  • Document work performed and progress achieved through the Remedy ticketing system
  • Brief technical status, risks, issues, and recommended solutions to Government and DoD stakeholders
  • Explain complex technical issues clearly and professionally to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Adapt to rapidly changing priorities, requirements, schedules, and mission needs
Requirements:
  • U.S. citizenship
  • Active TS/SCI security clearance
  • Current DoD IAT Level II certification, including at least one of the following:
    • CompTIA Security+ CE, preferred
    • CCNA Security
    • CompTIA CySA+
    • GIAC Global Industrial Cyber Security Professional
    • GIAC Security Essentials
    • Certified Network Defender
    • Systems Security Certified Practitioner
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, information technology, engineering, engineering technology, software engineering, programming, management, natural sciences, social sciences, mathematics, business, finance, or a related discipline
  • Minimum of four years of relevant professional experience, including at least three years of specialized experience administering computer systems
  • Experience supporting large-scale computer systems or multi-server local-area network environments
  • Extensive experience designing, building, and managing VMware environments
  • Experience migrating virtual machines from Hyper-V to VMware
  • Experience implementing advanced VMware capabilities, including High Availability and Fault Tolerance
  • Extensive experience administering Windows Server 2019 and 2022 domain environments
  • Extensive experience with Active Directory and Group Policy
  • Experience administering Linux operating systems, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux and CentOS
  • Experience with Veeam Backup & Replication
  • Experience applying DISA system-hardening requirements and Secure Technical Implementation Guides
  • Strong systems engineering, systems architecture, integration, testing, and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong project-management and execution skills
  • Experience developing technical documentation, SOPs, reports, project schedules, and presentations
  • Strong written, verbal, presentation, and stakeholder-communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively with highly skilled and diverse technical teams
  • Ability to work full-time onsite at the Pentagon

Education and experience requirements may be substituted as follows:
  • A master's degree in a related discipline and at least three years of general experience, including at least two years of specialized experience; or
  • No degree and at least eight years of general experience, including at least six years of specialized experience
Desired Experience:
  • Experience supporting systems within the NMCC, Pentagon, or another mission-critical DoD environment
  • Extensive experience building and testing Group Policy
  • Experience using Remedy or a comparable IT service-management and ticketing platform
  • Experience developing Engineering Installation Plans
  • Experience supporting systems throughout the full system-development and operational lifecycle
  • Experience supporting technology refreshes, server migrations, data migrations, or infrastructure-modernization initiatives
  • Experience coordinating technical solutions with third-party vendors
  • Experience briefing senior Government, military, and DoD stakeholders
  • Demonstrated cybersecurity and risk-management mindset
  • Ability to operate effectively in a highly dynamic environment where requirements and priorities may change quickly

Salary is commensurate with experience. An approximate salary range for this requisition is $90k to $160k annual. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include, but are not limited to, responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement, if any, or other law.
