Summary

Position Summary

TECO-Westinghouse Motor Company is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to transform system one-line designs into detailed electrical diagrams, wiring schematics, and panel layouts for data center power distribution systems.

This position will be responsible for selecting and specifying electrical components, developing technical specifications and procurement documentation, coordinating closely with Mechanical, Power Systems, and Controls Engineers, and reviewing designs for UL and NEC compliance.

The Electrical Engineer will also support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), troubleshooting, and customer technical reviews to ensure electrical systems meet project requirements for performance, safety, reliability, and constructability.
Key Responsibilities
  • Translate system one-line diagrams into detailed:
    • Three-line diagrams
    • Wiring schematics
    • Panel layouts
    • Point-to-point wiring documentation
  • Select, size, and specify electrical components based on load requirements, fault levels, coordination studies, and project specifications, including:
    • Circuit breakers
    • Protective relays
    • CTs/PTs
    • UPS systems
    • Meters
    • Control devices
    • Cable and busway
    • Terminal blocks
    • Protective devices
  • Prepare detailed technical specifications, datasheets, and equipment schedules for procurement and vendors.
  • Define equipment performance requirements, ratings, environmental conditions, and testing/inspection criteria.
  • Coordinate closely with Mechanical Engineers to optimize:
    • Equipment layouts
    • Cable routing
    • Required clearances
    • Service access
    • Heat management
    • Ventilation
    • HVAC interfaces
    • Ambient-temperature derating
  • Support PLC/Controls Engineers by developing and maintaining:
    • I/O lists
    • Signal descriptions
    • Wiring termination details
    • Interface definitions
  • Support integration of protection relays, meters, sensors, and monitoring systems.
  • Review and comment on vendor submittals and engineering drawings to ensure alignment with project requirements and UL/NEC standards.
  • Participate in design reviews and resolve electrical design issues in collaboration with Power Systems, Mechanical, and Controls Engineers.
  • Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) by:
    • Preparing test procedures
    • Verifying wiring
    • Verifying functional operation
    • Troubleshooting electrical issues
    • Documenting punch-list items
    • Tracking corrective actions
  • Support Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) and field troubleshooting activities as required.
  • Represent the Company before customers and at technical conferences in support of Sales and Marketing activities.
  • Work closely with Engineering, Marketing, Factory Operations, Supply Chain, Service, Accounting, and customers.
  • Maintain compliance with Company policies, ISO 9001 standards, safety procedures, and applicable workplace requirements.
  • Maintain regular attendance as an essential function of the position.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from a four-year college or university in Electrical Engineering, with 5+ years of related work experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in LV/MV power distribution or switchgear/UPS design.
  • Strong knowledge of NEC, UL standards, and industrial control panels.
  • Proficiency with CAD, Visio, or similar tools for electrical schematics and point-to-point wiring documentation.
  • 3-5 years of experience applying applicable industry standards.
  • Experience with data center power distribution or modular power systems preferred.
  • Familiarity with protective relays and electrical communication protocols preferred.
Required Skills & Abilities
  • Strong understanding of LV/MV power distribution systems.
  • Ability to develop and interpret detailed electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Experience selecting and sizing electrical components based on system requirements.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial control panels and applicable UL/NEC requirements.
  • Ability to develop detailed technical specifications and procurement documentation.
  • Ability to review vendor drawings and submittals.
  • Strong understanding of electrical testing and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to work effectively with Mechanical, Power Systems, Controls, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Project Management teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form.
  • Working knowledge of statistical tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively present technical information to customers and employees.

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret manufacturing drawings, electrical schematics, repair specifications, test results, technical journals, and related engineering documentation.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with senior management, customers, trade associations, and other public groups.
  • Ability to prepare technical reports, correspondence, specifications, and other engineering documentation.
Mathematical Skills
  • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts including algebra, exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, permutations, calculus, and differential equations.
  • Ability to apply mathematical operations to analytical activities including frequency distribution, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and related statistical analysis.

Work Style

This position operates under general supervision and requires a self-starter who can take ownership of assigned projects and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

The successful candidate will work across the full electrical design and manufacturing process, from detailed schematic development and equipment selection through factory testing, troubleshooting, and customer support.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements

This position regularly requires standing, walking, using hands and fingers, reaching with hands and arms, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling, as well as talking and hearing. The employee may frequently be required to climb or balance and may occasionally be required to sit.

The position may occasionally require lifting and/or moving up to 20 pounds. Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

The work environment includes regular exposure to vibration and frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts and risk of electrical shock. Occasional exposure may include wet or humid conditions, elevated or precarious locations, fumes or airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions, extreme cold, and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually high.
