Role Overview
The Construction Manager (CM) serves as the field leader responsible for the safe, efficient, and successful execution of substation and transmission construction projects. Acting as the primary liaison between field activities and project leadership, the CM ensures adherence to engineering design, contract requirements, environmental regulations, safety standards, and project schedules. This role involves approximately 20% office responsibilities and 80% field oversight, coordinating and managing work performed by contractors and vendors at the project site.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and understand all contract documents, engineering packages, drawings, and specifications.
- Ensure contractor adherence to safety plans, conduct daily safety meetings, and promote a proactive safety culture.
- Manage project schedules, monitor milestones and the critical path, and escalate delays as needed.
- Oversee material management, including confirming deliveries, verifying specifications, and tracking shortages or damages.
- Ensure compliance with all environmental regulations, permits, and Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) requirements.
- Conduct daily site walkdowns to ensure work complies with specifications and document project progress.
- Provide fiscal oversight by tracking variances, reviewing invoices, and identifying key cost drivers.
- Serve as a critical bridge between field operations and leadership, maintaining strong contractor relationships and ensuring alignment among stakeholders.
- Lead and coach construction supervisors and supplemental staff, communicating goals and addressing logistical challenges.
Required Qualifications
Education: An Associate or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Power Generation, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Experience: 11 to 15 years of experience in substation, industrial, or power plant construction and commissioning, working with EPC Contractors, engineering firms, and equipment suppliers.
Technical Skills:- Strong understanding of engineering principles, construction drawings, and specifications.
- Knowledge of safety and environmental requirements in a construction setting.
- Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word.
- Strong communication and leadership capabilities.
- A valid, non-restricted driver's license is required.
Compensation & Benefits
The anticipated pay range for this position is $58.00 to $62.38 per hour. Per Diem and mobilization/demobilization expenses are available for this role.
