Senior Database Engineer (Oracle/AWS/GoldenGate)

Role Summary

Hands-on Senior Database Engineer to design, deploy, and support mission-critical databases across on-prem and AWS. The ideal candidate is an Oracle DBA with deep GoldenGate expertise, strong AWS RDS/Aurora experience, and solid PL/SQL skills who can own performance, reliability, and migrations in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate & Optimize: Install, configure, patch, upgrade, and support production Oracle databases; perform performance tuning at DB/OS/query layers.
  • Replication (Priority): Design, install, configure, upgrade, monitor, and troubleshoot Oracle GoldenGate for high availability, migration, and real-time data movement.
  • AWS Data Platforms: Deploy and administer AWS RDS (Oracle/MySQL/Postgres), Aurora MySQL/Aurora PostgreSQL, EC2-hosted databases; manage S3, DMS, AWS Backup; implement IAM, networking, and security best practices.
  • Migrations: Lead on-prem → AWS migrations using GoldenGate/DMS; execute zero/minimal-downtime cutovers.
  • Backup/Recovery: Implement and test RMAN and Data Pump strategies; ensure RPO/RTO compliance.
  • Scripting & Automation: Build operational automation and diagnostics using SQL, PL/SQL, and shell scripting (UNIX/Linux).
  • Reliability & RCA: Own incident response, root-cause analysis, and preventive actions; publish runbooks and SOPs.
  • Agile Delivery: Work within Scrum teams (Jira/Confluence), partner cross-functionally across multiple workstreams.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years total experience in database engineering/administration, with 10 years Oracle DBA in production.
  • 5+ years Oracle GoldenGate (install, configure, upgrade, monitor, troubleshoot) – must-have.
  • 3+ years AWS hands-on with RDS, Aurora, EC2, S3, DMS, AWS Backup, DynamoDB (nice to have).
  • Proven performance tuning (AWR/ASH, execution plans, indexing, OS metrics) on UNIX/Linux.
  • Strong PL/SQL, SQL, and shell scripting.
  • Demonstrated success migrating databases from on-prem to AWS using GoldenGate/DMS.
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum ceremonies and tools (Jira, Confluence).
  • Excellent verbal/written communication; able to juggle multiple projects and deadlines independently.
  • PostgreSQL/MySQL tuning and operations.
  • AMI design and hardened images for database workloads.
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code or automation (Terraform/CloudFormation/Ansible).
