Summary

Role: SAP PP/QM Consultant

Location: Elma, NY 14059 (Onsite)

Duration: 12+ Months

Detailed JD:

We are seeking an experienced SAP S/4HANA PP/QM Subject Matter Expert to lead manufacturing process design for a strategic S/4HANA transformation in the Aerospace & Defense sector. The role requires deep Production Planning and Quality Management process expertise, strong discrete manufacturing knowledge, and the ability to translate complex business requirements into practical, standard-first S/4HANA solutions.

This is a hands-on, client-facing leadership role. The successful candidate will facilitate design workshops, own key process and solution decisions, guide cross-functional integration, support configuration and validation, and drive business readiness through testing, cutover, training, and stabilization.

Key Responsibilities

PP/QM Transformation and Design Leadership

  • Lead current-state assessment, requirements discovery, fit-to-standard analysis, process harmonization, and future-state design for PP and QM.
  • Plan and facilitate cross-functional design workshops; document outcomes, process flows, key design decisions, gaps, actions, risks, and dependencies.
  • Own the PP/QM workstream solution integrity and provide clear recommendations that balance business value, usability, standard SAP capabilities, and transformation objectives.
  • Partner with business leaders, manufacturing operations, quality, engineering, supply chain, IT, and implementation teams to secure alignment and timely decisions.

Production Planning and Manufacturing Execution

  • Design end-to-end planning and execution processes, including demand management, MRP, capacity planning, production versions, bills of material, routings/recipes, work centers, production orders, confirmations, staging, goods movements, and settlement integration.
  • Apply strong discrete manufacturing expertise to engineer-to-order, make-to-order, make-to-stock, repetitive, subcontracting, and project-oriented scenarios as applicable.
  • Define planning parameters, exception handling, order controls, availability considerations, scheduling, capacity evaluation, and shop-floor execution practices.
  • Drive integration between SAP PP and MES/shop-floor systems, including production order dispatch, material consumption, operation confirmations, labor and machine data, yield/scrap, genealogy, quality results, status synchronization, and error handling.
  • Collaborate with integration and technical teams on interface requirements, message design, monitoring, recovery, security, and end-to-end reconciliation.

Quality Management and Compliance

  • Design quality planning, inspection, and improvement processes across procurement, production, inventory, and customer-facing scenarios.
  • Define inspection types, inspection plans, master inspection characteristics, sampling procedures, dynamic modification, results recording, usage decisions, defects, notifications, certificates, and quality analytics.
  • Enable quality controls for incoming inspection, in-process inspection, final inspection, nonconformance, rework, returns, and supplier quality management.
  • Support material and product traceability through batch/serial controls, inspection records, genealogy, status management, and audit-ready documentation.
  • Work with business compliance stakeholders to reflect applicable company, customer, regulatory, and contract-specific quality requirements in the approved solution.

Cross-Functional Integration

  • Drive PP/QM integration with MM, EWM/WM, SD, PS, PM/EAM, FI/CO, Product Costing, engineering, master data, MES, PLM, and reporting solutions.
  • Validate end-to-end scenarios such as planned demand through production, procurement quality, production staging, inspection stock, nonconformance and rework, finished-goods release, delivery, and manufacturing cost capture.
  • Identify integration gaps early and coordinate ownership, design decisions, data dependencies, and test coverage across workstreams.

Delivery, Testing, Cutover, and Adoption

  • Guide configuration and functional design; review solution documentation and functional specifications for reports, interfaces, conversions, enhancements, forms, and workflows.
  • Define master data and migration requirements for materials, BOMs, routings, work centers/resources, production versions, inspection plans, quality master data, open orders, batches, and relevant transactional data.
  • Prepare and execute unit, string, integration, regression, and user acceptance testing; lead defect triage, root-cause analysis, retesting, and closure.
  • Develop cutover activities, readiness criteria, reconciliation steps, contingency plans, and hypercare priorities for PP/QM and MES integration.
  • Create process documentation, workshop packs, configuration rationale, training content, and knowledge-transfer materials; coach business users and delivery team members.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of SAP functional consulting experience with deep hands-on expertise in SAP PP and QM; experience level may be calibrated to the organization s role framework.
  • Demonstrated leadership on at least two SAP S/4HANA implementation, conversion, or transformation programs across design, build, testing, cutover, and stabilization.
  • Solid manufacturing process expertise in complex discrete manufacturing, with the ability to connect business operations to SAP process and configuration decisions.
  • Hands-on knowledge of PP master data, planning, production execution, capacity, order management, confirmations, material movements, and manufacturing integration.
  • Hands-on knowledge of QM master data and core processes, including inspections, results recording, usage decisions, defects, notifications, certificates, and quality analytics.
  • Practical experience integrating SAP PP with MES or shop-floor systems and managing functional requirements for bidirectional production execution interfaces.
  • Strong workshop facilitation, stakeholder management, requirements analysis, decision framing, conflict resolution, written communication, and executive-level presentation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively across business, functional, technical, data, testing, change, and global delivery teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Aerospace & Defense manufacturing experience, including high-complexity products, configuration control, serial/batch traceability, quality documentation, nonconformance, and supplier quality processes.
  • Experience with engineer-to-order, project manufacturing, long-cycle production, make-to-order, defense or government program environments, or highly regulated manufacturing.
  • Working knowledge of SAP Digital Manufacturing, SAP Manufacturing Integration and Intelligence, or comparable MES integration patterns.
  • Experience with SAP Activate, Signavio or process modeling, fit-to-standard delivery, Clean Core principles, and transformation governance.
  • Exposure to Advanced Planning and Scheduling, embedded EWM, Product Costing, Project Systems, PLM/engineering integration, Fiori, analytics, and data migration.

Core Competencies

  • Business process leadership and trusted-advisor presence End-to-end PP/QM solution ownership Manufacturing and quality domain depth MES and cross-functional integration thinking Decision-oriented workshop facilitation Clear, concise, and audience-aware communication Risk, dependency, and issue management Quality-focused delivery and business adoption
  • Success Measures
  • Future-state PP/QM processes are aligned, documented, approved, and executable across business and technology teams.
  • Key design decisions are timely, traceable, and consistent with transformation standards and standard-first objectives.
  • MES and cross-functional integrations are complete, testable, monitored, and supported by clear ownership and recovery procedures.
  • Critical manufacturing and quality scenarios are validated through end-to-end testing with controlled defect closure.
  • Cutover, training, and hypercare deliverables support stable adoption and effective knowledge transfer.
  • The SME is recognized as a credible, collaborative advisor who communicates clearly and resolves complex issues pragmatically.
