Roles & Responsibilities
Define Compute Architecture Strategy
- Design end-to-end compute architecture (on-prem, cloud, hybrid)
- Create High-Level Design (HLD) and guide Low-Level Design (LLD)
- Align compute strategy with business goals, SLAs, and growth plans
- Architects define the blueprint and direction of infrastructure
Translate Business Requirements into Technical Design
- Understand application needs (performance, scale, availability)
- Convert requirements into:
- Compute sizing
- Platform selection (VM vs Container vs Bare Metal)
- Balance performance, cost, and resiliency
- Architects act as a bridge between business and technology
Design Cloud & Hybrid Compute Platforms
Architect solutions on:
- AWS (EC2, autoscaling)
- Azure VM / VMSS
Define:
- Hybrid architecture (on-prem + cloud)
- Multi-region deployment strategy
- Lead cloud migration (VM → cloud / container)
- Responsible for designing and managing cloud infrastructure architecture
- Own Virtualization & Platform Strategy
- Design VMware / Hyper-V / KVM environments
Define:
- Cluster architecture (HA, DRS)
- Resource pooling strategy
Drive modernization:
- VMware → Kubernetes / OpenShift transformation
Drive Containerization & Modern Platforms
- Architect Kubernetes / OpenShift platforms
Define:
- Cluster sizing and scaling
- Multi-zone / multi-region clusters
Guide adoption of:
- Microservices-based compute models
Ensure High Availability & Disaster Recovery
- Define HA architecture (active-active / active-passive)
- Design DR strategy (RTO / RPO aligned)
Implement:
- Failover automation
- Self-healing systems
- Architects ensure systems are scalable, reliable, and resilient
Lead Automation & Infrastructure as Code
Implement:
- Terraform / Ansible-based provisioning
Define:
Standard templates / golden images
Enable:
- Automated provisioning, scaling, and recovery
- Improving efficiency via automation is a key responsibility
Optimize Performance & Capacity
Perform:
- Capacity planning
- Workload profiling
Optimize:
- CPU, memory, storage usage
- Ensure systems meet:
- Performance SLAs
Drive Cost Optimization
Optimize:
- Compute resource utilization
- Cloud spend (rightsizing, reserved instances)
Reduce:
- Overprovisioning, unused capacity
- Provide FinOps recommendations
- Architects make decisions impacting cost, performance, and efficiency
Ensure Security & Compliance
Define:
- Secure compute configurations
- OS hardening standards
Integrate:
- IAM, security controls
- Ensure compliance with enterprise policies
Salary Range-$100000-$140,000 a year
