Summary

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead Component development mechanical fabrication, assembly, and debug activities to ensure successful delivery

  • Identify areas of risk and work quickly to prototype and mitigate

  • Support DFMEA development

  • Engage with component suppliers to specify and acquire quotes

  • Perform 3D design and GD&T drawings of complex parts and assemblies

  • Performs Design for manufacturing analysis (DFM)

  • Optimize designs via analytical, numerical, and/or empirical assessments

  • Perform self-guided R&D around novel pack structures and mechanical design

  • Willingness to learn new skills such as using fabrication tools in lab

  • Perform any additional duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline
  • 3+ years of relevant mechanical engineering, product development, or component design experience
  • Demonstrated experience developing mechanical components and assemblies from concept through prototype, validation, and production readiness
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD modeling and the creation and interpretation of engineering drawings
  • Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Experience applying Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) principles
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate mechanical designs using analytical, numerical, and/or empirical methods
  • Experience supporting mechanical fabrication, assembly, prototype build, troubleshooting, and design-debug activities
  • Working knowledge of DFMEA and engineering risk-identification and mitigation processes
  • Ability to interpret technical requirements and translate them into practical component and system designs
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, organizational, and technical communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced product-development environment with changing priorities and aggressive technical, cost, weight, and schedule targets

Preferred

  • Experience within the automotive, electric vehicle, battery, energy-storage, aerospace, or other highly engineered product-development environment
  • Experience designing battery packs, battery enclosures, structural battery components, or similar mechanical systems
  • Knowledge of structural mechanics, fatigue, durability, vibration, thermal expansion, and material behavior
  • Experience with finite element analysis (FEA), structural simulation, or other computer-aided engineering tools
  • Experience selecting materials and manufacturing processes for lightweight, high-performance mechanical components
  • Experience working directly with component suppliers, including development of technical specifications, RFQs, design reviews, and prototype sourcing
  • Experience supporting products through prototype builds, design validation, manufacturing launch, and start of production
  • Familiarity with automotive product-development processes and applicable engineering standards
  • Experience working in an R&D, advanced engineering, or technology-integration environment
