Location: San Antonio, Austin, Dallas/Fort Worth, or Houston (Hybrid)
Role Overview
We are seeking a Staff Engineer to serve as the technical lead for a consumer banking application team focused on delivering new digital payment capabilities. This individual will provide hands-on technical leadership across Java back-end and mobile banking teams, mentor engineers, and drive software quality. In this role, you will be responsible for owning development efforts and ensuring high-quality software delivery while partnering with product and engineering leaders.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead development efforts for consumer banking and payment applications.
- Design and deliver new payment capabilities, including consumer wire functionality.
- Review code and mentor engineers, promoting best practices and engineering excellence.
- Act as the primary technical escalation point for the team.
- Collaborate across Java, iOS, and Android development teams.
- Participate in architecture and design decisions.
- Ensure solutions are scalable, secure, and maintainable.
- Partner with stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
Required Qualifications
- A minimum of 6 years of software engineering experience.
- Strong Java development experience.
- Experience serving as a Technical Lead, Lead Engineer, or Staff Engineer.
- Experience with APIs, microservices, and distributed systems.
- Prior experience in banking, payments, financial services, or fintech environments.
- Demonstrated experience with code reviews and mentoring developers.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with React.
- Experience with iOS (Swift) and/or Android development.
- Familiarity with Kafka or event-driven architectures.
- Knowledge of consumer banking or digital payment systems.
- Knowledge of container orchestration platforms like OpenShift and cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
- Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing frameworks.
Work Schedule
This is a hybrid position. Travel to San Antonio will be required a few times per quarter for planning sessions and team events. Travel expenses will be reimbursed.
