Summary

Overview:
The Lab Desktop Support Specialist provides technical support for end users working in lab and research environments. This role ensures reliable operation of desktops, laptops, lab instruments, specialized software, and supporting infrastructure. The ideal candidate has strong troubleshooting skills, experience supporting scientific or technical environments, and the ability to work hands-on with users in fast-paced, compliance-driven settings.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide day-to-day desktop support for users in laboratory and research environments
  • Troubleshoot hardware, software, OS, and connectivity issues (Windows, macOS, lab-specific devices)
  • Support installation, configuration, and maintenance of lab PCs, peripherals, and scientific instruments
  • Maintain and update lab systems, including patching, imaging, and inventory tracking
  • Configure and support lab-specific applications and instrument control software
  • Collaborate with scientists, technicians, and IT teams to ensure systems meet operational and compliance requirements
  • Escalate complex issues to engineering or vendor support when necessary
  • Maintain documentation for lab systems, procedures, and troubleshooting workflows
  • Ensure adherence to security and compliance standards (GxP, FDA, ISO, or company-specific policies)
  • Support network connectivity and device integration within lab environments
  • Assist with onboarding and offboarding activities, including device setup and access provisioning
  • Participate in lab equipment lifecycle management, including upgrades and replacements

Required Qualifications:
  • 2-4+ years of desktop support experience, ideally in a lab, biotech, pharma, manufacturing, or R&D environment
  • Strong knowledge of Windows OS; familiarity with macOS is a plus
  • Experience with imaging tools (SCCM, Intune, MDT, or similar)
  • Understanding of lab instruments, control software, and drivers
  • Ability to troubleshoot hardware, peripherals, and network issues
  • Excellent customer service, communication, and multitasking skills
  • Ability to lift, move, and set up equipment as required

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in a regulated environment (GxP, GLP, GMP)
  • Familiarity with ticketing systems (ServiceNow, Jira, Remedy, etc.)
  • Basic understanding of networking fundamentals
  • Experience supporting scientific applications or instrument vendors (e.g., Agilent, Waters, Thermo Fisher)
  • CompTIA A+, Network+, or related certifications

Work Environment:
  • Onsite role with frequent hands-on work in lab and R&D spaces
  • May require periodic off-hours support for urgent issues, maintenance windows, or lab operations

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
