Company Description

Care.com is a consumer tech company with heart. We're on a mission to solve a human challenge we all face: finding great care for the ones we love. We're moms and dads and pet parents. We have parents and grandparents so we understand that everyone, at some point in their lives, could use a helping hand. Our culture and our products reflect that.

Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Engineering Manager to lead our payments engineering team. You will manage a high-performing, agile team of engineers dedicated to building and scaling our payments ecosystem. You will be responsible for the end-to-end architecture, development, and maintenance of our financial technology platform, processing millions of high-volume financial transactions, subscriptions, and payouts for families and caregivers securely and reliably.
  • Lead a focused, agile team of engineers responsible for the end-to-end management of our payments platform.
  • Lead the ongoing optimization and advancement of our Stripe-based payment infrastructure to ensure high performance and scalability, following the successful migration from our legacy Vantiv systems.
  • Design, build, and maintain high-volume, fault-tolerant, and secure payment processing services capable of handling massive transactional throughput.
  • Oversee the integration and optimization of diverse payment methods, including Apple Pay, Google Pay, and P2P payment solutions, ensuring scalability and strict regulatory compliance.
  • Partner with Product, Finance, and Compliance stakeholders to translate complex business requirements into technical solutions that ensure regulatory alignment and financial integrity.
  • Partner with architects to decompose legacy platform components and transition core payment features into a clean, event-driven architecture.
  • Champion engineering best practices-including observability, testing, performance, scalability, and security across the payments domain.
  • Mentor and guide the professional and technical development of your team, fostering a culture of high-quality engineering, collaborative problem-solving, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee on-call practices, SLAs, and incident management to maintain platform resilience and availability.

Qualifications
  • 8+ years of professional engineering experience.
  • 3+ years of experience leading a team (Engineering Manager or Team Lead).
  • Deep experience building and scaling payments platforms (Stripe, PayPal, ApplePay, ACH), gateway integrations (specifically Stripe) and a strong understanding of navigating legacy payment system migrations (e.g., Vantiv) to support our current architecture.
  • Solid understanding of payment security, compliance (PCI-DSS), and high-volume transaction architectures.
  • Experience managing a small, high-performing team and driving technical delivery.
  • Experience with AWS and Microservices architecture is a plus.
  • Experience with Java or Golang.
  • BS or MS in Computer Science or a similar engineering discipline.
  • Proven success delivering large-scale, consumer-facing systems in a fast-paced environment.
  • A demonstrated ability to recruit, inspire, and grow engineering talent with a passion for building trustworthy, secure, and frictionless user experiences.
