At Netflix, our mission is to entertain the world. Together, we are writing the next episode - pushing the boundaries of storytelling, global fandom and making the unimaginable a reality. We are a dream team obsessed with the uncomfortable excitement of discovering what happens when you merge creativity, intuition and cutting-edge technology. Come be a part of what's next.
As Netflix continues to scale and diversify into new business domains (e.g., Ads, Commerce, Messaging, Games), the need for a unified, robust, and developer-friendly Member Platform has never been greater. This Platform is our strategic initiative to deliver a seamless, scalable, and innovative experience for all member-facing business domains.
The Domain Experience Systems team sits at the heart of this initiative. This team builds and operates the systems that integrate advanced capabilities (e.g., Ads, Commerce, Messaging, Search, Merch, experimentation) into the Member Platform through shared APIs, arbitration and composition layers, and cross-domain workflows. Domain Experience Systems is responsible for experience Construction, API Platform, experience configurations, and related systems that bridge domains and the Member Experience in a cohesive, scalable way.
As the Senior Manager for Domain Experience Systems, you will lead a highly cross-functional, platform-focused organization that enables new and existing domains to use this platform without deep coupling, while ensuring a world-class developer experience and a consistent, high-quality member experience. You will partner closely with product, Ads, Commerce, Messaging, Search, Merch, S&D teams, and other platform teams (Page Platform, Entity Platform, Platform Scale) to make the Member Platform the "paved path" for all domains.
What we'll expect from you:
- You build and scale multiple high-performing engineering teams, hiring, inspiring, and supporting the growth of managers and senior engineers with clarity of purpose and a strong focus on inclusion and belonging.
- You articulate and drive a cohesive technical and product vision for a platform experience.
- You are excited to translate the needs of diverse partners (Ads, Commerce, Messaging, Merch, Search, Content, Product, Design, Marketing) into measurable platform capabilities, self-service tools, and clearly defined integration patterns.
- You understand how to design, build, and operate high-traffic, low-latency distributed systems and APIs that sit directly on the critical path of the member experience, and you know how to evolve them while maintaining high availability, resiliency, and performance.
- You have deep experience defining and scaling API platforms and shared abstractions, including contract design, schema evolution, governance, and tooling that enable teams to move quickly while staying aligned to platform standards.
- You are comfortable balancing platform consistency with users autonomy, designing extensible architectures and clean boundaries so platform users can innovate independently while benefiting from shared infrastructure and patterns.
- You forge strong cross-functional and cross-org relationships, seeking to understand business and partner needs and delighting in enabling their success through clear paved paths, documentation, and reliable platform capabilities.
- You lead with data-informed judgment, collaborating with ML, experimentation/AB testing, and analytics partners to measure impact, guide tradeoffs, and improve both developer and member experiences.
- You collaboratively develop and iterate on multi-year technical roadmaps, manage expectations across many stakeholders, and selflessly navigate competing priorities, making transparent tradeoffs across domains and platform needs.
- You are a proactive, effective communicator, comfortable influencing at senior levels across engineering, product, and business leadership, and aligning multiple teams around strategic bets and clear outcomes.
- You have experience managing other engineering managers and/or multiple teams, and are adept at building operating models, rituals, and culture that support alignment, autonomy, and accountability at scale.
You have domain experience with some of the following:
- Large-scale API platforms and service-oriented or microservice architectures
- Personalization, ranking, or recommendations systems
- AB testing / experimentation platforms and integrating experimentation into product and platform decisions
- Machine learning systems in production and their impact on client and platform design
- Cloud computing and large-scale distributed systems (e.g., on AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or similar)
- JVM-based server stacks (e.g., Java, Kotlin) or equivalent large-scale backend technologies
- You have a BS or equivalent experience in Computer Science or a related field.
- You are highly aligned with our Values.
What to expect from Netflix:
- Meaningful work: your teams directly enable and accelerate Netflix's ability to innovate globally across Ads, Commerce, Messaging, Search, Merch, and future domains through a unified platform.
- Impact: you will help shape the future of how Netflix builds and evolves its member experience platform, influencing both technical direction and how new businesses integrate into the product.
- Freedom & responsibility: our roles are not circumscribed, so you will have the freedom to use your judgment to make Netflix better without waiting for permission, while owning the outcomes of those decisions.
- Stunning colleagues: work with amazing platform, product, ML, and application engineering talent on every project, including peers leading Page Platform, Entity Platform, Platform Scale, and Technical Leadership.
- Inclusive environment: we embrace different backgrounds, perspectives, and styles because it helps us make better decisions and build better systems that work for a global, diverse membership.
- Growth: learn from other selfless leaders around you, mentor other managers and senior engineers, and grow your impact by driving strategy across multiple teams and domains.
- Rigor: our decisions are informed by a mix of good judgment and data. You will be expected to bring structure, clarity, and evidence to how we evolve the Member Platform, measure platform success, and prioritize investments.
