Summary

Description

CenCore is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support the design, development, prototyping, and manufacturing of secure infrastructure solutions, including modular Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities, secure enclosures, and mission-critical facilities. This role transforms customer needs and broad objectives into practical, deployable solutions that support defense, intelligence, and national security customers. The Mechanical Engineer will contribute throughout the product development lifecycle, from research and concept development through prototyping and design for manufacturing. The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer who can solve complex technical challenges, work effectively within a multidisciplinary team, and manage a broad project scope with minimal oversight.

Key Responsibilities
  • Research customer needs and translate broad objectives into mechanical concepts, designs, and prototypes.
  • Design modular SCIF enclosures that meet applicable electromagnetic interference and sound transmission class attenuation requirements.
  • Develop cooling systems for environmental and high-performance edge data center applications.
  • Create modular building designs for secure infrastructure and mission-critical facilities.
  • Develop prototypes and production-ready designs using design for manufacturing principles.
  • Produce and refine mechanical designs using Onshape, AutoCAD, and other applicable engineering software.
  • Integrate mechanical components and systems into secure enclosure and facility solutions.
  • Manage assigned project tasks with limited oversight while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Complete rapid design iterations to evaluate options and identify effective technical solutions.
  • Communicate technical concepts, design decisions, project needs, and risks to internal stakeholders.

Requirements

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
  • At least 3 years of relevant mechanical engineering experience.
  • Experience with mechanical design, prototyping, and product development.
  • Experience using Onshape, AutoCAD, or comparable industry design software.
  • Ability to manage project tasks independently while contributing effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong technical problem-solving, critical-thinking, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain the security clearance required for the position.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting research and development initiatives.
  • Experience applying design for manufacturing principles.
  • Experience designing modular buildings, secure enclosures, SCIFs, or mission-critical facilities.
  • Experience designing cooling systems for environmental or high-performance edge data centers.
  • Experience addressing electromagnetic interference or sound transmission class attenuation requirements.
  • Experience moving a design from concept through prototype and production.

Skills / Competencies
  • Mechanical design and engineering analysis
  • Prototype development and rapid iteration
  • Design for manufacturing
  • Computer-aided design using Onshape, AutoCAD, or comparable tools
  • Mechanical systems integration
  • Secure enclosure or modular facility design
  • Creative and critical problem-solving
  • Independent project execution and multidisciplinary collaboration

Work Environment and Physical Requirements
