About the Role
The Salesforce Nonprofit Specialist will serve as a trusted internal subject matter expert and strategic advisor for a sophisticated nonprofit Salesforce environment. The organization has been on Salesforce for several years and has undergone multiple major implementations, including a migration from a legacy fundraising platform.
While the environment is technically strong, it has historically relied heavily on external vendors. This role is designed to shift that model by embedding an experienced Salesforce nonprofit expert who can assess the current state, identify inefficiencies, and help establish a clear, prioritized roadmap for ongoing optimization.
This opportunity is well suited for someone who enjoys architecture review, hands-on configuration, modernization, and partnership with a skilled internal team in a mission-focused setting.

Job Description
The Salesforce Nonprofit Specialist will serve as a strategic advisor and hands-on subject matter expert for a mission-driven nonprofit organization’s Salesforce environment. This role focuses on assessing the current system state, identifying opportunities for improvement, and strengthening internal ownership of Salesforce operations. The specialist will work closely with internal stakeholders to modernize the platform, improve efficiency, and reduce reliance on external vendors, while providing day-to-day guidance and execution support.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Conducting a comprehensive review of the existing Salesforce nonprofit environment to identify architectural, automation, and process inefficiencies
  • Developing a prioritized optimization roadmap that includes near-term improvements and longer-term enhancements
  • Serving as the primary Salesforce subject matter expert, supporting informed decision-making and execution without heavy vendor reliance
  • Partnering with internal Salesforce resources (administrative, architectural, reporting, and marketing automation) to strengthen internal capability and governance
  • Performing or guiding Salesforce configuration, development, and user acceptance testing (UAT) as needed
  • Evaluating and recommending improvements related to data model design, integrations, reporting, and governance structures
  • Assessing underutilized tools, including analytics platforms such as Tableau, and recommending optimization, repurposing, or retirement
  • Supporting business users during standard working hours as an embedded advisor rather than a project-only consultant

Qualifications
Required
  • Extensive hands-on experience with Salesforce nonprofit environments, including at least one of the following:
    • Salesforce Nonprofit Cloud / Agentforce Nonprofit
    • Salesforce Nonprofit Success Pack (NPSP)
  • Demonstrated experience serving as a Salesforce subject matter expert responsible for architecture review and system optimization
  • Strong understanding of nonprofit data models, reporting, permissions, and governance best practices
  • Experience assessing and improving Salesforce implementations originally built by external integrators
  • Background working in smaller organizations with complex needs (typically 15–40 Salesforce users)
  • Ability to balance strategic recommendations with hands-on execution
Preferred
  • Experience transitioning organizations away from a fully vendor-led Salesforce operating model
  • Tableau experience, including architecture review, integration, or enablement
  • Exposure to nonprofit fundraising, research, or grant-driven operating environments
  • Prior experience reviewing or refactoring highly customized Salesforce orgs
