Summary

This role is onsite with work locations available in Pittsburgh, PACleveland, OHDallas, TX or Birmingham, AL. 

Overview: We are seeking a Kafka QA Engineer with strong hands-on experience validating data streaming solutions, APIs, and backend systems. The ideal candidate has deep knowledge of Kafka concepts, strong database skills, and proven experience in both manual and automated testing.

Responsibilities

  • Validate Kafka components including topics, partitions, producers, consumers, and security configurations.

  • Perform message testing across JSON, Avro, Kafka and ensure data integrity through serialization/deserialization validation.

  • Design, develop, and execute test plans, test scenarios, and test cases for Kafka-based data pipelines.

  • Write and execute complex SQL queries in Oracle and Mongo based on mapping logic.

  • Verify data flowing through Kafka, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and proper processing.

  • Develop and execute API test cases using Postman and Swagger; validate JSON responses, response codes, performance, and error handling.

  • Perform manual and automated testing for APIs and backend services.

  • Troubleshoot Kafka client configuration issues and participate in continuous integration/automated testing workflows.

  • Use Git for version control and collaborate within Agile teams.

  • Work within Agile ceremonies and utilize X-Ray, Jira, and Confluence for documentation and test management.

Must-Have Skills

  • Strong Kafka message testing experience (JSON, Avro, Kafka).

  • Hands-on experience with Oracle, SQL, and MongoDB.

  • Strong Kafka client configuration and troubleshooting skills.

  • Experience in continuous integration and automated testing (Cucumber, Karate, or similar tools).

  • Strong API testing skills using Postman and Swagger.

  • Experience with Git version control.

  • X-Ray and Jira/Confluence experience.

  • Solid understanding of API testing disciplines, QA methodologies, and Agile processes.

Education / Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related technology field preferred, but equivalent experience will be considered.

Preferred Skills

  • SOAP API experience.
