Job Details

Data Intelligence (DI) is seeking a Mid/Senior VMware Engineer to join our Blue Team supporting CVN Hull, Mechanical, and Electrical (HM&E) systems virtualization. In this role, you will design, maintain, and secure advanced VMware-based infrastructure in a mission-critical, defensive cybersecurity environment, ensuring operational readiness and compliance with DoD standards. This position combines deep VMware architecture expertise with a security-focused mindset, working alongside cybersecurity analysts to protect and harden systems against evolving threats. This position is fully on-site in Dam Neck, VA (Virginia Beach area), and requires 15% travel.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Support virtualization-based O&M tasking of deployed operational infrastructure solutions (Citrix, Microsoft, NetApp, Nutanix, Veeam, VMware) with an emphasis on system hardening, security patching, and Blue Team defensive measures.
  • Collaborate with Blue Team cybersecurity engineers to investigate and remediate vulnerabilities, analyze threats, and implement secure configurations in line with STIGs and RMF guidelines.
  • Perform in-depth technical investigations of customer-reported issues, determining underlying causes and implementing long-term fixes that enhance both performance and security posture.
  • Provide input on product direction, design, and development of secure virtual environments, ensuring systems are resilient against intrusion and compliant with DoD cybersecurity requirements.
  • Work closely with cybersecurity teams to integrate monitoring, logging, and security controls into the VMware architecture to support threat detection and response.
  • Contribute to secure configuration guides, operational manuals, and provide training to users and administrators on virtualization security best practices.
  • Participate in release planning and change management processes to ensure secure and seamless upgrades of VMware and related technologies.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience providing progressively complex Enterprise IT administration or engineering support in virtualized environments, servers, cybersecurity, endpoints, and/or networks.
  • Expertise with VMware technologies, including vSphere, vCloud Director, ESXi, vCenter, and vMotion.
  • Experience operating and maintaining enterprise-level technologies (Microsoft, VMware, Nutanix, NetApp, RHEL, Citrix, Cisco).
  • Demonstrated experience operating in secure processing environments with STIG compliance.
  • Familiarity with RMF processes and defensive cybersecurity principles in a Blue Team context.
  • Meet the Cyber IT/Cybersecurity Workforce (CSWF) System Administrator (451) Intermediate Level for SECNAV M-5239.2 compliance.
  • Active DoD TS/SCI clearance.

Travel Requirements:

  • Up to 15% travel required

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting US Navy ship systems and virtualizing Hull, Mechanical, and Electrical (HM&E) systems.
  • Advanced certifications in technical areas such as CCNA, NCAP, CISSP, VCP, NCDA, CCA, RHCSA, Azure Fundamentals, or similar.
  • Experience implementing, operating, and optimizing secure virtualization, storage, data protection, and networking solutions.
  • Knowledge of integrating virtualization with cybersecurity monitoring tools and supporting security incident response.
  • Expert knowledge of VMware deployment best practices.

Desired Education:

  • Bachelor s degree in engineering, computer science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • CompTIA Security+ CE, GIAC GSEC, or SSCP preferred.
