Lead Voice/Data Technician - Job DescriptionOverviewA major commercial contracting client is seeking an experienced
Lead Voice/Data Technician to support upcoming large-scale infrastructure projects. This role is ideal for a seasoned technician who can lead crews, manage timelines, and deliver high-quality structured cabling installations across fast-paced commercial environments.
Core Responsibilities1. Advanced Voice/Data Installation & Termination- Pull and install Cat5/6 and fiber cabling across building infrastructure, including:
- MDFs
- IDFs
- Risers
- Floor pathways
- Perform clean, accurate terminations at workstations, patch panels, and MDF/IDF locations.
- Maintain exceptional cable management and organization standards.
2. Testing & Certification- Test and certify all voice/data cabling using a Fluke meter or equivalent.
- Ensure all terminations meet performance, compliance, and customer specifications.
- Document results and troubleshoot failures as needed.
3.Leadership & Project Coordination- Lead and coordinate a Voice/Data installation team, including:
- Assigning manpower
- Directing daily tasks
- Managing timelines and deliverables
- Ensuring safety and quality standards
- Read and interpret blueprints, scopes of work, and construction documents (AutoCAD/Procore familiarity preferred).
- Communicate effectively with project managers, partners, and other trades.
4.Professionalism & Workmanship- Maintain a neat, organized work environment.
- Demonstrate reliability, strong communication, and the ability to lead by example.
- Support additional divisions (Security, AV, Fiber, etc.) when needed.
Must-Have Skills- MDF/IDF experience
- Riser and pathway cabling
- Cable pulling and termination (Cat5/6, fiber)
- Punchdown and patch panel work
- Cable management
- Infrastructure installation
- Testing & certification (Fluke or equivalent)
- Team leadership and job-site coordination
- Blueprint reading / construction documentation
- High-quality workmanship and professionalism
Nice-to-Have Skills- Audio/Visual (AV)
- Security systems / cameras
- Fiber splicing
- Fiberoptic installation
- Experience supporting multi-discipline low-voltage teams
Work Environment- Fast-paced commercial construction sites
- OSHA-30 and SST-certified environments
- Collaboration with multiple trades and project teams
