Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Lead Environmental Engineer to lead complex projects and processes within a manufacturing environment. This position will work with limited management oversight and will be responsible for driving process improvements, identifying automation opportunities, redesigning standard operating procedures, and supporting operational planning.
The ideal candidate will have strong analytical and project leadership skills, the ability to develop innovative solutions, and experience working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders. This role will also provide coaching and guidance to less experienced professionals.
Key Responsibilities
Lead large-scale projects and processes of complex scope with limited oversight from management.
Develop, manage, and implement projects within assigned areas of responsibility.
Assist with the development and execution of operational plans.
Identify opportunities for continuous improvement, process optimization, and automation.
Conduct detailed analyses and use findings to develop recommendations that improve operational performance.
Review, revise, and holistically redesign standard operating procedures (SOPs) when necessary.
Develop and implement innovative solutions to improve processes and operational efficiency.
Coach, mentor, review, and delegate work to junior-level professionals.
Provide technical guidance and support to team members.
Collaborate with internal departments and external stakeholders to achieve project and operational objectives.
Build and maintain strong professional relationships through effective communication and negotiation.
Evaluate existing processes and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, quality, compliance, and productivity.
Monitor project progress, identify challenges, and implement appropriate solutions.
Support organizational initiatives related to environmental performance, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
Progressive experience in environmental engineering, manufacturing, engineering, operations, or a related field.
Demonstrated experience leading complex projects or processes with limited supervision.
Proven experience with SOP development, revision, standardization, or redesign.
Strong analytical skills with demonstrated experience using data to identify process improvement opportunities.
Experience identifying and implementing automation or technology-driven process improvements.
Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and support junior-level professionals.
Strong operational planning and project management skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong stakeholder management and negotiation abilities.
Ability to work effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.
Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Ability to work effectively in a manufacturing environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Professional engineering experience within a manufacturing environment.
Experience with environmental compliance, sustainability, or EHS programs.
Experience leading cross-functional improvement initiatives.
Experience implementing new processes, technologies, or automated solutions.
Experience developing performance metrics and using data to drive operational decisions.
Experience managing multiple complex projects simultaneously.
Previous experience mentoring or supervising engineers or technical professionals.
