As a Sr Engineer I, Advanced Process Control (APC) Engineer, you will help optimize complex refining processes through innovative control solutions. You will join a collaborative Process Engineering team that partners closely with various teams to safely maximize unit performance, reliability, and margin. In this role, you will work independently and provide guidance on APC strategies that keep our refinery running safely, efficiently, and competitively.

What You'll Do
  • Lead the design, implementation, tuning, and optimization of advanced process control (APC) applications to improve refinery unit stability, throughput, and yields, using Honeywell Forge APC and related tools.
  • Monitor APC performance and key performance indicators, diagnose issues, and drive troubleshooting and corrective actions in partnership with process engineering, operations, and process control teams.
  • Develop and maintain APC models and control strategies, including dynamic process models and gasoline blending models, ensuring solutions meet safety, reliability, and regulatory standards.
  • Design and refine process control strategies and equipment specifications for capital and expense projects, defining instrumentation and control strategy requirements related to APC.
  • Create and maintain APC documentation, standards, safe work practices, and training materials for operators and technical staff; lead Management of Change (MOC) and periodic audits for APC applications.
  • Analyze process and APC data to identify improvement opportunities, recommend new technical developments, and quantify benefits in terms of energy use, margin, and reliability.
  • Lead or contribute to small and medium APC projects from concept through startup, coordinating with multi-functional teams and vendors to deliver on scope, schedule, and cost.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to less experienced APC and process engineers while continuously building your own expertise in emerging APC technologies and best practices.

What You'll Bring - Required
  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline
  • 5 or more years of combined experience in process engineering/design, process control, and/or advanced process control in refining, petrochemical, manufacturing, or a related industry
  • Must be willing and able, with or without reasonable accommodations, to comply with the following:
    • Travel up to 5% of the time
    • Occasional on-call duties
    • Work extended hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays
    • Transport articles up to 50 pounds
    • Work safely near large, hot, high-speed machines
    • Climb ladders and stairs up to 200 feet in height
    • Work around chemicals, including acids and bases
    • Work around hydrocarbons under high pressure and heat
    • Work outside in harsh weather conditions
    • Wear fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment (such as steel-toe shoes, ear and eye protection)
    • Maintain face daily so that a respirator/face mask can seal properly (some examples include being free of facial hair and/or clean shaven)

What Makes You Stand Out - Preferred
  • 7 or more years of combined experience in process engineering/design, process control, and/or advanced process control in refining, petrochemical, manufacturing, or a related industry
  • Experience with one or more refinery processes (e.g., crude/vacuum distillation, reforming, hydrotreating, alkylation, fluid catalytic cracking, hydrocracking, sulfur plant)
  • Experience in process design and modeling, especially dynamic modeling
  • Knowledge and experience with process control techniques, including basic and advanced control design
  • APC implementation and/or maintenance experience using Honeywell's Forge APC or equivalent multivariable control technology
  • Experience with the Honeywell Distributed Control System (DCS) Experion platform.
  • Experience leading small or medium process control or APC projects from design through startup
  • Proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Strong commitment to safe work practices and ability to work effectively with minimal supervision
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across disciplines and mentor less experienced engineers
  • Demonstrated desire to learn, strengthen and build skills, and keep up with APC technology, industry standards, and codes
