Job Description:

The Sr. Field Technician performs tasks related to the design, installation, maintenance and documentation of corporate wide radio communications infrastructure, equipment, and services. This position is responsible for installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining radio and related equipment and services.

Key Accountabilities:


  • Provides support for Radio and mobile computing systems. This includes mobile two-way radios, handheld two-way radios, AVTEC dispatch consoles, radio base stations, trunked radio base stations, satellite receiver systems, in-vehicle repeaters, radio base station sites, public notification siren systems, mobile computing systems, wireless packet data modems, pager and cellular equipment, accessories and services.
  • Provides 24 X 7 trouble response when needed.
  • Uses the following test equipment: Transmission test set, VOM muititester, T1 tester, Fiber optics tester, Radio wattmeter, Data circuit tester, V.35 data tester, O-scope, Multimeter, RF wattmeter, RF Service Monitor, Antenna Tester, Data Tester, Protocol Analyzer, and Antenna Analyzer, Spectrum Analyzer.
  • Interprets drawings, schematics, and prints.
  • Assists technicians in troubleshooting complex system problems using knowledge, experience, and diagnostic tools. Provides technical training/coaching and advice to technicians.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Appropriate certifications or training for areas of responsibility (e.g, Motorola, AVTEC) from a recognized institution
  • Experience in multi-platform environments

Other Requirements


  • Must be able to pass drug screen background investigation, psychological screen, and radworker training as required for nuclear site access clearance.
  • Must be able to pass substation access class.
  • Must be physically able to carry 50 lbs.
  • Required to use personal vehicle on the job, and transport up to 300 lbs of equipment.
  • Analytical thinking, complex problem solving, thoroughness.
  • Anticipates problem areas and recommends and often implements corrective and/or preventive actions.
  • Coaches others in problem solving techniques and methodologies.
  • Demonstrated broad understanding of wire and wireless telecom technologies, support and services.
  • In depth knowledge of RDN systems, equipment and RF technologies.
  • Is thoroughly trained in the installation and service of all radio equipment.
