Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to support the development, integration, testing, and validation of autonomous machine systems for heavy equipment applications. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience integrating hardware and software systems, troubleshooting machine-level issues, and collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Integrate autonomous system solutions with machine platforms and onboard electronic systems.

  • Install, configure, and test autonomy hardware on heavy equipment.

  • Flash software onto machines and validate system functionality.

  • Perform on-machine commissioning, system integration, functional testing, and validation.

  • Monitor and analyze CAN bus and Ethernet traffic to validate system communications and data.

  • Troubleshoot connectivity, sensor, wiring harness, electrical, positioning, and time synchronization issues.

  • Collaborate with product development, systems integration, and validation teams to resolve technical issues.

  • Translate customer requirements into system-level technical requirements.

  • Support prototype builds, machine updates, and autonomy demonstrations.

  • Document system architecture, design decisions, test results, requirements, and success criteria.

  • Communicate system readiness, technical risks, and design trade-offs to stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.

  • 5–7 years of relevant professional engineering experience; internships do not count toward the requirement.

  • Proven experience in systems engineering, product development, and hardware/software integration.

  • Hands-on experience with autonomous systems, robotics, or machine automation.

  • Knowledge of sensors and positioning technologies, including cameras, LiDAR, radar, GNSS, and IMU.

  • Experience with CAN bus, Ethernet, and ROS2.

  • Understanding of onboard electrical systems, wiring, and harnessing best practices.

  • Experience with system integration, testing, validation, and troubleshooting in lab and real-world environments.

  • Strong communication, documentation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a cross-functional engineering environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with construction or mining equipment, such as excavators, wheel loaders, or articulated dump trucks.

  • Experience with autonomous heavy machinery or industrial robotics.

  • Familiarity with centralized control system architectures.

  • Knowledge of C++ and autonomous software development is beneficial but not required.

Work Environment:

  • Full-time onsite work in Mossville or Peoria, Illinois.

  • Hands-on engineering activities in laboratory, office, and machine environments.

  • Domestic travel may be required, up to 25%.

  • Applicable export-control eligibility requirements must be met.

Important: This is a systems integration and autonomy hardware role, not a dedicated embedded software development position.
