Role: Network Architect / CCIE
Location: Boston, MA (non local OK but relocation would be required as this is onsite)

Position Overview
Our client is seeking a CCIE-certified Network Architect to provide advanced network architecture, engineering, troubleshooting, and operational support across a complex Cisco networking environment.
This role operates at both the strategic architecture/design level and hands-on operational level, supporting network reliability, performance, security, lifecycle management, and ongoing optimization.
Must-Have Qualifications
- CCIE certification required
- Advanced Cisco networking expertise
- Strong L2/L3 networking and troubleshooting experience
- Hands-on experience with Cisco IOS, IOS-XE, and IOS-XR
- Strong understanding of routing, switching, and dynamic routing protocols
- Knowledge of networking across OSI Layers 1-4
- Experience supporting production enterprise network environments
Key Responsibilities
- Support daily network operations to maintain uptime, performance, stability, and operational continuity.
- Perform advanced L2/L3 troubleshooting across routing, switching, and production Cisco environments.
- Support protocol redistribution, configuration changes, and network change-management activities.
- Execute and support patching, upgrades, migrations, and network lifecycle operations.
- Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and provide recommendations for network optimization and performance improvement.
- Contribute to network security hardening and assist with incident response activities.
- Maintain accurate network documentation, diagrams, SAN mappings, configuration records, and operational documentation.
- Provide knowledge transfer and technical guidance to strengthen internal network engineering and operational capabilities.
- Contribute to network architecture and design decisions while supporting critical day-to-day operational requirements.
Technical Knowledge / Areas of Expertise
Candidates should be able to demonstrate practical knowledge of:
- OSI networking model, Layers 1-4
- Cisco routing and switching technologies
- Cisco IOS, IOS-XE, and IOS-XR
- SFP, SFP+, and QSFP transceiver types and their functional differences
- Common iSCSI switch configuration and networking considerations
- Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) variants and the ability to select an appropriate approach based on environmental requirements
- Static port-channeling versus dynamic link aggregation using LACP or PAgP
- /31 point-to-point subnetting for dynamic routing environments
- Unnumbered interfaces and their application in dynamic routing architectures
- Leaf/spine network architectures and associated routing design considerations
