Computational Scientist

Aptask Global Workforce (AGW) is seeking a Computational Scientist for an Onsite position with a Global Biotechnology Company located in South San Francisco, CA. This is a 12+ month contract opportunity.

This full-time role focuses on understanding large multimodal perturbation datasets by training and evaluating deep learning models. The contractor will work to characterize how different data portions contribute to model learning and will validate performance against experimental data. This is a business-critical workstream with defined deliverables and direct collaboration with the project lead.

Responsibilities:

• Train and evaluate deep learning models on large multimodal perturbation datasets
• Characterize how different portions of the dataset contribute to model learning
• Evaluate model performance and model outputs against experimental data
• Own a clearly scoped, business-critical workstream with defined deliverables
• Collaborate directly with the project lead and access an established analysis codebase

Requirements:

• PhD in a computational discipline, or equivalent research experience (Preferred majors: Computational Biology, Computational Sciences, Statistics or Machine Learning)
• Experience training and evaluating deep learning models in PyTorch, including designing and executing controlled train/test split experiments on a SLURM cluster
• Strong applied statistics skills
• Proficient in scientific Python (numpy, pandas, scanpy/anndata) and reproducible, documented analysis practice

Desired skills:

• Experience with single-cell transcriptomics
• Experience with analysis of CRISPR perturbation screens (perturb-seq or similar)
• Familiarity with representation learning
• Familiarity with image analysis

Pay range: up to $52.88 per hour
