Walmart Energy's mission is to deliver an affordable, reliable, and clean energy future for our company and the communities we serve. As one of the world's largest electricity consumers, Walmart faces rising electricity demand, increasing grid constraints, and long-term exposure to energy cost volatility.
We are looking for a Sr Manager, Data Engineering to sit on the business team within the Energy Digital Transformation organization. In this high-impact role, you will partner with another data engineer to co-own and lead the technical direction of the Energy Analytics data ecosystem. You will design, build, and maintain the core infrastructure that enables advanced analytics, operational decision-making, and critical reporting for the Energy organization.
This role requires advanced engineering expertise, enterprise systems knowledge, and the ability to independently architect solutions that support critical business processes while maintaining strict security and governance frameworks.

What you'll do...
What you'll do...
  • Build and Enhance Production-Grade Pipelines: Architect and implement scalable data ingestion, transformation, and processing frameworks to drive major department initiatives, including Real-Time Energy Insights, Bill Anomaly Detection, Tariff Optimization and much more.
  • Drive Platform Reliability and Scalability: Maintain and optimize Google Cloud Platform and SQL Server environments to increase stability and reduce compute/storage costs. Implement CI/CD pipelines and establish operational playbooks to streamline testing and deployment.
  • Ensure Data Compliance and Governance: Create and maintain comprehensive data dictionaries, lineage documentation, pipeline specifications, and SLA definitions. Update SSP documentation for Element and Google Cloud Platform environments to meet enterprise security and audit requirements.
  • Implement Data Quality Frameworks: Design and enforce validation rules, schema evolution checks, and automated data profiling to ensure critical datasets remain reliable and well-governed.
  • Own Operational Excellence: Monitor production pipelines, lead incident response, and conduct root-cause analysis. Build automation for repeatable processes to reduce manual overhead and improve system uptime.
  • Lead Cloud & Platform Engineering: Build cloud-native and on-premise solutions using distributed compute engines (Google Cloud Platform, PySpark, custom Python frameworks) and manage orchestration tools like Airflow (via Walmart's Element platform) and SQL Server-based schedulers.
  • Drive Strategic Collaboration: Partner closely with business and analytics teams to translate complex business needs into scalable technical models. Evaluate new technologies, conduct POCs, and help shape the long-term architecture of Energy Analytics.

What you'll bring...
  • Deep experience designing, building, and operating scalable, production-grade data pipelines and data platforms in cloud and hybrid environments.
  • Strong hands-on expertise with SQL, Python, PySpark, relational databases, orchestration tools, and data processing frameworks.
  • Experience working with Google Cloud Platform and enterprise data environments, including performance tuning, cost optimization, and storage design.
  • Experience implementing CI/CD, automated testing, version control, and deployment practices for data workloads.
  • Strong understanding of data quality, observability, lineage, metadata, governance, and security controls in enterprise environments.
  • Ability to translate complex business problems into scalable data engineering solutions and communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong ownership mindset, including experience leading production support, root-cause analysis, and durable engineering improvements.
  • Comfort operating in a fast-moving, cross-functional environment where the role bridges business priorities and technical execution.
