Senior Performance & Automation Engineer - Remote Contract
MUST BE PHYSICALLY BASED IN THE USA - Ideally supporting EST/CST hours - Remote Contract
**TOP SKILLS**- We are seeking a Senior Performance & Automation Engineer who will own the strategy, execution, and continuous improvement of performance testing across modern web applications and APIs.
- This role focuses on browser level performance evaluation (including visual and component level metrics), API performance, and CI/CD driven automation, using Playwright or similar frameworks and TestRail as the primary test management platform.
- The ideal candidate will have hands on expertise in performance engineering, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work closely with cross functional engineering teams to ensure our digital experiences are fast, stable, and scalable.
- Experience with the specific tools in our stack is helpful but not required equivalent experience with comparable technologies is acceptable
- Retail preferred, not required
Qualifications- 5 8+ years of experience in performance engineering or performance test automation.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to engineers on performance best practices, optimization techniques, and benchmarking methodologies.
- Participate in design reviews and proactively highlight potential scalability and performance risks.
- Use TestRail to manage test plans, test runs, and performance test documentation.
- Produce clear, actionable performance assessment reports with root cause analysis, remediation recommendations, and capacity insights.
- Communicate findings and trends to leadership and engineering teams to inform release readiness.
- Strong understanding of web application architecture, including browser rendering, JavaScript execution, caching, CDNs, and API interaction patterns.
- Hands on experience with one or more performance testing tools (e.g., Playwright, Cypress or comparable).
- Experience analyzing browser performance using Chrome DevTools, WebPageTest, Lighthouse, or similar.
- Solid experience with API testing and performance validation (REST, GraphQL, JSON payload profiling, etc.).
- Proficiency with at least one scripting or programming language (Preferably TypeScript, etc.).
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret metrics (latency, throughput, resource usage, etc.).
- Experience integrating automated tests into a CI/CD pipeline (GitLab preferred, but GitHub Actions / Jenkins etc.).
- Familiarity with test management systems such as TestRail (or alternatives like Zephyr, Xray, qTest)., WorkSite
