Overview

The Automation Configuration Engineer will assist the Horsham Software team in creating and maintaining the scripted sequences that customize the operation of Veeco wet wafer processing tools to meet customer requirements. This position focuses on developing and managing design-driven configuration files to ensure accurate system setup and performance on a deadline-oriented manufacturing schedule. You will collaborate closely with Software and Electrical Engineering, Field Service, Technical Support, and the Manufacturing Operations teams to deliver solutions and support to our high-profile customers in the semiconductor industry. In addition, you will play a key role in the creation and maintenance of application installation scripts and assist with software validation testing. This role is based in Horsham, PA and supports our Precision Surface Processing (PSP) product line.

 

Responsibilities

  • Perform translation of electrical and plumbing schematics into configuration files and automation scripts that customize the manufactured product to meet customer process requirements.
  • Support the Manufacturing department throughout the machine build and setup process, diagnosing system issues to determine root cause and then reconfiguring files as required to address issues and to incorporate design modifications.
  • Provide assistance to the Field Service and Global Product Support groups in the evaluation and solutioning of customer service issues.
  • Innovate additions and improvements to existing configuration files and scripting templates to streamline tool file development and improve delivered quality.
  • Develop and maintain the software application installation scripts used by Manufacturing, Field Service, and our customers.
  • Image, configure, and occasionally troubleshoot Windows PCs used in the product line.
  • Perform software unit and system testing as directed.

 

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Automation Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent practical experience. 5+ years of relevant hands-on experience is required.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proven experience configuring and programming PC and/or PLC-based control systems.
  • Strong understanding of automation scripting or PLC programming concepts (ladder logic, function block, structured text).
  • Experience configuring and troubleshooting I/O, sensors, actuators, and basic motion control.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and control documentation.
  • Strong problem solving and diagnostic skills with software, electrical, and mechanical systems.
  • Experience in manufacturing or capital equipment environments.
  • Experience interfacing with customers.
  • Experience operating industrial machinery and/or robotics is desired.
  • Experience in the Semiconductor industry is an advantage.
  • Skilled at Administrator level with the Microsoft Windows operating system.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Given the collaborative and cross-functional nature of this role, regular in-office presence (3–5 days per week) is expected to effectively support team and business objectives.
