Description

SAIC has an immediate remote opportunity for a Network Firewall Engineer Team Lead to support the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). The Network Firewall Engineer Team Lead will be responsible for leading a team of network and firewall engineers in designing, implementing, and maintaining complex, secure, and highly available network environments for the FDIC. As the primary liaison between the engineering team and FDIC stakeholders, the Team Lead will represent the team in meetings, oversee technical operations, and ensure the successful delivery of networking solutions across the organization.

This role will be remote and can be worked from anywhere in the United States.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead a team of network firewall engineers in deploying, configuring, and maintaining Palo Alto firewall systems.
  • 'Serve as the primary point of contact for FDIC counterparts, representing the team in meetings to discuss project updates, incident responses, and change management proposals.
  • Assign, track, and prioritize tasks to ensure timely completion of tickets, incidents, and operational responsibilities.
  • Oversee the development and documentation of firewall configurations, policies, and operational processes to ensure regulatory compliance and documentation continuity.
  • Supervise the implementation, tuning, and management of Palo Alto, Zix Email Security, and Riverbed NetProfiler solutions across the FDIC network infrastructure.
  • Drive incident response efforts, triaging escalations, identifying root causes, and ensuring proper resolution of firewall and network issues.
  • Lead the development and enforcement of network security policies, access control rules, and VPN configurations to secure all FDIC assets.
  • Prepare, present, and defend change management requests, ensuring alignment with FDIC security processes and standards.
  • Conduct periodic reviews and approvals of team work products, including firewall rule updates, network performance reports, and policy configurations.
  • Mentor and train team members to improve technical skills, security knowledge, and task-handling efficiency.
  • Oversee comprehensive testing and implementation cycles for system upgrades, including new security tools, firewall hardware/software, and infrastructure updates.
  • Evaluate the performance of network security tools on a regular basis and recommend enhancements to optimize and future-proof the FDIC's network.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Computer Science, Information Technology, or Engineering) AND 9 years of relevant work experience, including hands-on technical and leadership experience OR additional relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an Active Public Trust Clearance
  • 5+ years of experience configuring and managing Palo Alto firewalls or similar next-generation firewalls.
  • 2+ years of experience using tools like Riverbed NetProfiler for network analysis and troubleshooting.
  • 2+ years of experience administering Zix Email Security or equivalent email gateway solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience leading or supervising teams of technical professionals, with proven success in task management, mentoring, and collaboration.


Certifications:
  • One or more advanced firewall/network security certifications, such as:
  • Palo Alto Networks Certified Network Security Engineer (PCNSE)
  • Cisco Certified Network Professional Security (CCNP Security) or higher-level Cisco certifications like Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE Security)
  • Juniper Networks Certified Specialist Security (JNCIS-SEC) or equivalent Juniper certification.


Desired Skills:
  • Expertise in Palo Alto PAN-OS, including designing advanced firewall policies, managing threat prevention suites, and troubleshooting complex security issues.
  • Hands-on experience with Riverbed NetProfiler, using the tool to analyze network traffic, assess performance bottlenecks, and ensure optimal data flow.
  • In-depth knowledge of Zix Email Security solutions, including configuration, administration, email encryption, and phishing/spam protection.
  • Strong understanding of best practices in change management processes and experience in preparing and defending technical changes in formal settings.
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills for identifying and resolving critical network security and performance issues.
  • Familiarity with network design, including firewall rule management, VPNs, and Regional Internet Access Point configurations.
  • Extensive experience with regulatory and cybersecurity compliance in secure environments, particularly within the financial or federal sector (familiarity with FDIC security standards preferred).


Target salary range: $120,001 - $160,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
