Flight Chief, Hardware & Software Engineering (516 SWES/MXDPF)

Serve as the Flight Chief and principal executive leader over the 516 SWES / MXDPF flight. In this high-impact, 2nd-level (or higher) supervisory role, you will direct work activities through subordinate supervisors and leads to deliver ruggedized, battlefield-ready hardware and software engineering solutions directly to the frontline warfighter.

- Organizational Direction: Exercise full 2nd-level managerial authority over the 516 SWES flight, driving long-term planning, resource allocation, and workflow execution.

- Ruggedized Engineering Oversight: Direct the design, development, and sustainment of highly reliable, safe, and quality-controlled hardware and software systems engineered for harsh battlefield environments.

- Strategic Communications: Align and brief senior executive stakeholders on program milestones, risk management frameworks, and capability delivery schedules.

- Workforce Development: Foster a culture of excellence, establishing performance standards and mentoring subordinate supervisors to build a highly capable engineering pipeline.

- A proven leader of leaders with extensive experience directing large engineering flights, managing budgets, and steering complex project timelines.

- A champion of technical quality with a deep understanding of ruggedized hardware systems, software engineering lifecycles, and safety-critical design standards.

- A trusted executive communicator skilled at translating highly technical achievements and challenges into clear strategic choices for military leadership.

QUALIFICATIONS:

- U.S. Citizenship

- Obtain & maintain a Top Secret security clearance

- This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.

- Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft

- Subject to recall during non-duty hours, weekends, and holidays to complete proposals and/or resolve software problems

- This position may be designated as an acquisition position covered by the Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP).

Recruitment Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

1. Professional knowledge of electronics engineering and/or computer science concepts, theories, principles, and practices and working knowledge of other disciplines, such as aerospace, industrial, mechanical, and/or electrical engineering; of a broad range of engineering standards, precedents, methods, and techniques to ensure work in compliance with regulations and standards; and the applicability of such knowledge to the full range of duties concerned with design, production, and maintenance of Operational Flight Programs, Automated Test Systems, Test Program Set Software, and other systems used to support the warfighter and weapons systems program offices.

2. Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures.

3. Knowledge of standard contracting regulations, practices, and procedures.

4. Ability to utilize Art of the Possible concepts and initiatives to plan, organize, and direct the functions and staff of a small to medium sized organization.

5. Knowledge of budgeting, procurement, standard configuration and finding regulations, practices and processes related to system acquisition and sustainment management functions.
