Job Description:

Pay Range: $70hr - $75hr

The Data Governance Expert will lead the implementation and operationalization of enterprise-wide data governance frameworks with a strong focus on Microsoft Purview.
This role is responsible for metadata management, lineage, classification, policy enforcement, and governance program execution across business and technology domains.
The position requires collaboration with business stakeholders, data engineering, analytics, and AI teams to ensure regulatory compliance, data quality, and effective governance adoption.

Requirement/Must Have:

Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Purview Data Map, Catalog, Scanning, Lineage, Classification, and Glossary.
Proven experience implementing data governance programs from planning to operational execution.
Background in data engineering, data architecture, or AI/ML data pipelines with understanding of modern data flows.
Knowledge of data modeling, metadata standards, lineage frameworks, and data quality concepts.
Familiarity with Azure, Fabric, data lakehouses, SQL platforms, and BI ecosystems.
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to manage cross-functional programs and influence without authority.

Responsibilities:

Lead setup, configuration, and operations of Microsoft Purview including Data Map, Catalog, Scanning, Lineage, Classification, and Glossary.
Implement metadata harvesting from diverse sources including SQL, Oracle, Data Lakes, S3, Lakehouse platforms, BI tools, and Fabric pipelines.
Develop API-based automation for metadata ingestion, lineage enrichment, and stewardship workflows.
Maintain Purview policies, sensitivity labels, roles, permissions, and governance rules.
Design and operationalize enterprise-wide governance frameworks, ownership models, stewardship processes, metadata standards, certification workflows, and RACI structures.
Drive governance adoption across domains ensuring alignment with regulatory compliance and business reporting requirements.
Establish KPIs to track catalog coverage, lineage completeness, classification accuracy, and data quality improvements.
Support audits, controls, and compliance evidence creation using Purview lineage and metadata.
Build end-to-end lineage across ingestion, transformation, and consumption layers.
Integrate metadata with data quality tools to surface profiling, quality rules, and issue insights within Purview models.
Collaborate with engineering teams to embed metadata contracts and lineage practices.
Engage with business owners, data stewards, portfolio managers, investment operations teams, and technology teams to drive governance initiatives.
Facilitate workshops, governance forums, lineage walkthroughs, and metadata curation sessions.
Translate complex technical concepts into business-friendly narratives to support decision-making.
Act as a bridge between analytics, AI teams, data engineering, and business product owners.

Experience:

Extensive experience in data governance within a large enterprise environment.
Exposure to investment management, asset management, or financial services.
Experience working with complementary governance tools such as Solidatus, Collibra, Alation, Informatica, or Purview.

Skills:

Enterprise data governance strategy and implementation.
Metadata management and lineage architecture.
Regulatory compliance alignment within investment data domains such as portfolio positions, security master, trades, transactions, reference data, and risk and performance analytics.
Stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration.
Process formalization and organizational change management.

Qualification And Education:

Relevant degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Finance, or a related field.
Certifications in Azure, DAMA, DCAM, Data Governance, or related disciplines are preferred.
