DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Engineer II, Mechanical

FLSA Status: Exempt

Department: Engineering

Reports to: Engineering Manager, Mechanical

GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PURPOSE:

The Engineer II, Mechanical is responsible for developing and maintaining mechanical system designs under the direction of a senior engineer or manager. They lead the development of subsystems in larger design efforts or the complete mechanical system development in smaller projects. They provide technical direction to junior engineers, designers, and drafters. Provides engineering support to internal and external customers and performs other tasks as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Functional & Technical Skills
  • Translate requirements into a system architecture and detailed design.
  • Design and develop complex mechanical systems, equipment, and products for industrial machinery.
  • Determine feasibility of modifying existing or designing new equipment considering costs, time limitations, and other technical and economic factors.
  • Validate designs through analysis and testing.

Operational Excellence
  • Coordinate own design efforts as well as other engineers and designers to meet production schedules and provide project task estimates and updates to project team.

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: BS in Mechanical Engineering

Experience: 3+ years experience developing and maintaining mechanical system designs.

Licenses/Certifications: Obtain and maintain railroad safety training and credentials

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Working knowledge of business software including MS Office suite.
  • Collaborate with others to clarify requirements and develop solutions.
  • Lead design reviews consisting of multi-disciplined and cross functional team members.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: MS in Mechanical Engineering

Experience: 3+ years experience in the following:
    • Railroads, transportation, agricultural, or heavy construction equipment design.
    • Power systems, engineer integration into power units and generator sets (up to 2000 Hp/1.3MW).
    • Complex/large scale machine layout and kinematic design.
    • Large scale structural design and analysis.
    • Directing individual engineers or designers.

Licenses/Certifications: EIT

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge in Autodesk and ERP software

Compensation:

Loram determines compensation based on factors such as skills, competencies, education, and/or experience. Certain positions may be eligible for an annual bonus and paid time off in addition to base compensation.

The pay range for this position is between $81,300-$121,800
