Summary

Overview

We are seeking a Senior Google Cloud Platform Cloud Engineer to join our Platform Engineering team. This senior-level role is responsible for the operational stability, reliability, and continuous improvement of Cotiviti's cloud infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform. The Senior Google Cloud Platform Cloud Engineer serves as a subject matter expert in cloud operations, leading incident response efforts, driving automation of operational workflows, and establishing best practices for monitoring, alerting, and performance management across Google Cloud Platform environments. This individual will work cross-functionally with engineering, security, and product teams to ensure our cloud platform is scalable, secure, and resilient - and will mentor junior team members to grow the team's overall operational capability.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and lead day-to-day cloud operations practices for production Google Cloud Platform environments (GKE, Compute Engine, Cloud Run, Cloud SQL), building the foundational processes and standards that ensure long-term availability, performance, and reliability - including on-call rotations and incident response via Cloud Monitoring and PagerDuty integrations.
  • Build and mature the team's incident response capabilities; serve as technical lead during escalations, driving root cause analysis and post-incident reviews using Cloud Logging, Error Reporting, and Cloud Monitoring to establish repeatable, preventive practices.
  • Architect and implement the organization's observability foundation - defining standards for monitoring, alerting, and tracing across Google Cloud Platform infrastructure and applications using Cloud Monitoring, Cloud Logging, and Cloud Trace.
  • Lead the development of automation frameworks and tooling (Terraform, Python, Go) that reduce operational toil and establish scalable, repeatable workflows across Google Cloud Platform, leveraging Cloud Build, Cloud Scheduler, and GitOps practices.
  • Create and own Google Cloud Platform operations standards, runbooks, and SOPs from the ground up; build a documentation culture that enables the team to operate consistently and scale knowledge effectively.
  • Partner with security teams to design and implement Google Cloud Platform security controls (IAM, Workload Identity, VPC Service Controls, Cloud Armor, CMEK), establishing HIPAA-compliant patterns and guardrails aligned with Google Cloud Platform's shared responsibility model.
  • Work closely with engineering and architecture teams to shape Google Cloud Platform infrastructure design (Shared VPC, Private Service Connect, Cloud Load Balancing), embedding operability and reliability standards into how new systems are built from the start.
  • Own capacity planning, cost optimization, and resource governance across Google Cloud Platform environments; use Cloud Asset Inventory, Recommender, and BigQuery billing exports to build visibility and controls as the platform grows.
  • Evaluate emerging Google Cloud Platform services and technologies - including areas like Vertex AI infrastructure, Apigee, and Chronicle SIEM - and make strategic recommendations that position the platform for scale and long-term efficiency.
  • Mentor and develop junior and mid-level cloud engineers, establishing a team culture of Google Cloud Platform best practices, shared ownership, and continuous learning as the platform and team grow together.
  • Complete all responsibilities as outlined in the annual performance review and/or goal setting.
  • Complete all special projects and other duties as assigned.
  • Must be able to perform duties with or without reasonable accommodation.

This job description is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed and is not to be construed as an exhaustive list of responsibilities, duties and skills required. This job description does not constitute an employment agreement and is subject to change as the needs of Cotiviti and requirements of the job change.
