    Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Developer (iSeries) with deep expertise in Java development on the IBM iSeries (AS/400) platform. In this role, you will be responsible for application development, maintenance, and modernization of mission-critical iSeries-based systems. The ideal candidate combines strong Java skills with the ability to analyze complex business requirements and drive continuous improvement.

This is a remote contract opportunity with potential for extension.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, test, and deploy Java applications running on the IBM iSeries (AS/400) platform, including web services, APIs, and batch processing components
  • Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve production issues across Java and legacy applications within established SLA timelines
  • Develop and maintain interfaces between iSeries applications and external systems using REST/SOAP web services, MQ, and JDBC/JT400 connectivity
  • Collaborate with business analysts and stakeholders to translate functional requirements into technical specifications and solution designs
  • Perform code reviews, enforce coding standards, and contribute to team documentation and knowledge sharing
  • Support database design and optimization on DB2 for i, including SQL tuning, stored procedures, and data modeling
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, standups, and retrospectives
  • Identify opportunities for automation, process improvement, and technical debt reduction
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 7+ years of software development experience
  • 4+ years of Java development experience on or integrated with IBM iSeries (AS/400)
  • Strong proficiency in Java (SE/EE)
  • Experience with frameworks such as Spring and Spring Boot
  • Working knowledge of IBM iSeries technologies including DB2 for i and IFS (Integrated File System)
  • Experience with JT400/JTOpen toolkit for Java-to-iSeries integration
  • Strong understanding of relational database design and advanced SQL on DB2 for i
  • Experience with RESTful APIs, SOAP services, JSON/XML processing
  • Experience with Git and CI/CD pipelines
  • Ability to work within managed services environments and SLA-driven support models
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • ITIL Foundation certification or experience with ITSM processes
  • Experience with monitoring/logging tools such as Splunk or Dynatrace
  • Experience in logistics or supply chain domain
  • Experience with Jenkins
Physical Demands
  • Ability to perform essential job functions in compliance with ADA and applicable standards
  • Primarily sedentary work involving prolonged computer usage
  • Occasional movement required for meetings and collaboration
