About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Backend Engineer to join our client s engineering team in the retail and e-commerce industry. This role is fully onsite, five days a week, and involves building and maintaining scalable, reliable backend systems that power enterprise-level applications. You will work on distributed microservices, event-driven architectures, and cutting-edge technologies to deliver robust solutions for a high-volume, customer-facing environment.

Job Description

As a Senior Development Contract Engineer, you will:

  • Serve as a technical specialist within the engineering team, influencing architecture and implementation.
  • Translate abstract designs into concrete solutions and apply software engineering patterns for scalability and reliability.
  • Lead design, development, testing, and lifecycle management of backend services.
  • Conduct code reviews, design reviews, and debugging activities.
  • Solve complex technical issues and embed data quality protocols throughout the system.
  • Participate in on-call rotations to support 24x7 product operations.
  • You will work on:Building new features and services.
  • Writing Kafka consumers and producers.
  • Maintaining high test coverage and clean, maintainable code.
  • Supporting operational processes such as change management and deployments.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of professional experience in backend development within large-scale or enterprise environments.
  • Strong proficiency in Kotlin and Java.
  • Hands-on experience with Spring Boot or Micronaut frameworks.
  • Proficient in Docker, Git, and Postgres.
  • Solid knowledge of Apache Kafka (producers, consumers, stream processing).
  • Experience building RESTful APIs and working with container orchestration.
  • Familiarity with observability tools (e.g., OpenTelemetry, Grafana).
  • Proficient in test-driven development (e.g., JUnit, K6).
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in cross-functional teams.
  • A passion for clean, maintainable code and system reliability.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience as a contractor or consultant in enterprise environments.
  • Familiarity with ElasticSearch, MongoDB, and cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud Platform, Azure).
  • Knowledge of advanced architectural patterns (event sourcing, CQRS).
  • Exposure to AI-assisted coding tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot).
  • Experience with automated end-to-end testing and CI/CD integration.
