Under the general supervision of the Project Management Section Chief, this position is responsible for planning, development, implementation, and administration of complex infrastructure, applications, and IT service development including critical support projects that have statewide impact. This position primarily provides advanced level project management, analysis, and design.
This position provides project management expertise for customers within and outside state government. This role is key in promoting and adhering to the organization s Project Management Methodology, including communication and management of tasks for all phases of the Project Lifecycle. This position will manage multiple projects simultaneously.
This role is key in promoting and adhering to the organization s Project Management Methodology, including communication and management of tasks for all phases of the Project Lifecycle. This position resides in the Project Management Office within the Department of Enterprise Technology (DET). The Senior Project Manager reports to the Manager of the PMO.
The Senior Project Manager will be held accountable for the following responsibilities:
- Initiating and managing multiple complex enterprise projects in parallel and with multiple dependencies
- Planning, directing and implementing complex projects on time, within budget and with desired functionality and outcomes
- Providing project status, reports, performance metrics and other deliverables at each stage of a defined project management methodology to PMO Manager and other DET management
- Creating and executing project work plans and revising as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements
- Supporting business and project management staff
- Managing PMO operational activities, ensuring current, accurate and quality project information across the portfolio
- Identify and manage portfolio risks
- Using influence to eliminate bottlenecks and potential resource alignment problems
- Identifying resources needed and assigns individual responsibilities
- Managing stakeholders and stakeholder expectations
- Building strong project teams across multiple divisions
- Providing excellent service (internal and external to DET)
- Effectively managing vendor relationships in accordance to client strategies and directives
- Demonstrating a willingness to collaborate and support the PMO and DET peers and leadership. The Senior Project Manager is also responsible for supporting the advancement of the PMO s mission.
- Supporting Portfolio Management that provides a forward-looking picture of project work. Continuously improving the Project Methodology
- Providing input into Project Management Best Practices
- Educating Project Management customers and stakeholders on PMO processes and tools
