Job#: 3054439

Job Description:
Software Engineer - Applied AI & Agent Automation (Azure)

Location: Remote

Type: 6 month contract (can extend/convert)

Experience: 3+ Years

Build the Future of AI-Powered Operations

Are you excited about using AI to solve real business problems instead of building demos that never leave the lab?

We're looking for a Software Engineer with hands-on AI and cloud engineering experience to help design and build intelligent systems that automate how organizations operate. This role sits at the intersection of software engineering, AI, automation, and platform development, transforming manual, repetitive workflows into scalable, agent-driven solutions deployed in production.

You'll work with modern Microsoft technologies including .NET, C#, Python, Azure AI Foundry, Copilot Studio, Azure AI Search, and Azure Cloud Services to create systems that improve efficiency, reduce operational friction, and enable teams to work smarter.
What You'll Do
Build AI-Powered Business Solutions
  • Design and implement AI agents, copilots, and workflow automations that solve real operational challenges.
  • Use Azure AI Foundry, Copilot Studio, Azure AI Search, MCP, and related Microsoft AI technologies to develop intelligent solutions.
  • Apply prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and workflow orchestration techniques.
Develop Production-Grade Applications
  • Build backend services using .NET, C#, Python, SQL, and REST APIs.
  • Create scalable cloud-native applications on Azure App Services and Azure SQL.
  • Take prototypes and proof-of-concepts and evolve them into secure, supportable production systems.
Drive Process Automation
  • Partner with stakeholders to understand how work is performed today.
  • Identify opportunities to replace manual processes with intelligent automation.
  • Build integrations that connect business systems, workflows, and AI capabilities.
Improve Reliability & Quality
  • Implement observability, monitoring, evaluation frameworks, and testing for AI-powered systems.
  • Troubleshoot issues across distributed applications, AI workflows, integrations, and cloud services.
  • Support ongoing enhancement, maintenance, and optimization of existing AI applications.
Required Qualifications
Technical Skills
  • 3+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Strong programming experience with:
    • C# and .NET (preferably .NET 8/9/10 or newer versions)
    • Python
    • SQL
  • Experience building cloud applications on Microsoft Azure.
  • Strong understanding of API development, backend architecture, and database design.
AI & Automation Experience
  • Hands-on experience working with LLMs and AI services.
  • Practical knowledge of:
    • Prompt engineering
    • AI workflow orchestration
    • Retrieval and grounding techniques
    • Agentic AI concepts
  • Must have built and delivered at least one AI-powered feature, agent, assistant, or automation into production or near-production environments and be able to discuss the implementation in technical depth.
  • Experience enhancing and maintaining existing AI solutions through feature development, bug fixes, and workflow optimization.
Azure Expertise

Strong experience with:
  • Azure App Services
  • Azure SQL
  • Logic Apps
  • Azure AI Foundry
  • Copilot Studio
  • Azure AI Search
  • Azure DevOps
Additional Requirements
  • Experience implementing secure authentication and authorization solutions.
  • Excellent debugging and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work directly with business stakeholders.
  • Comfortable working in ambiguous environments and driving solutions from concept through production.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous Microsoft experience.
  • Experience with:
    • Microsoft Agent Framework
    • Semantic Kernel
    • LangGraph
    • MCP (Model Context Protocol)
  • React development experience.
  • Experience building evaluation frameworks for AI systems.
  • Experience deploying and supporting AI solutions at scale.
  • Familiarity with Responsible AI practices and enterprise compliance requirements.
  • Proven record of modernizing manual business processes through automation.
What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate is someone who:
  • Has actually shipped AI solutions, not just experimented with them.
  • Can explain the architecture, tradeoffs, and performance of AI systems they've built.
  • Thinks like both an engineer and a problem solver.
  • Understands when AI is the right solution and when a traditional automation is better.
  • Enjoys turning messy, manual business processes into elegant, scalable systems.

Bonus Points For:
  • Microsoft background
  • Active GitHub portfolio, demos, or AI projects that can be shared during the interview process
  • Charlotte, NC local candidates
