Opportunity Overview What You'll do: We are seeking a
Director of Business Data Services to lead the design and execution of our data mesh and data product operating model. This strategic leader will serve as the primary alignment and planning contact between the Data organization and key partners (Business Segment Leaders, Edward Jones "EJ Labs", Digital), ensuring domains have clear roadmaps, governance, and adoption strategies. You will own the lifecycle and economics of AI-ready data products, drive alignment across enterprise initiatives, and lead a team responsible for planning, enablement, and advisory functions with stakeholders.
This role blends business acumen, data literacy, and change leadership to accelerate the responsible use of analytics, machine learning, and GenAI at scale.
Strategic Alignment & Planning - Serve as the primary alignment and planning contact for the Data organization with Business Segment Leaders, EJ Labs, and Digital
- Maintain a long-term roadmap of each data domain's ambitions and needs, ensuring alignment with enterprise strategy
- Act as the central planning point for Data, submitting a standardized Data Statement of Work (SOW) within portfolio epics using a repeatable template covering all Data services
Transformation Leadership - Own accountability for data mesh/data product approach, including program design (domains, Data Product Managers, change management, planning)
- Lead the Data Advisor function to support the data product approach aligned to data domains
- For large transformation initiatives, facilitate data product and ETL job specifications with Business Systems Analysts and data owners; secure sign-off and hand-off to Data Product Managers for build, test, deploy, and ownership
Adoption & Enablement - Drive adoption, skills development, policy compliance of data ownership and use
- Lead role-based training, champions network, documentation standards, and office hours
- Develop and maintain training content, governance checklists, and communities-of-practice assets
Data Product Ownership - Own Security Master File data product and Key Firm Metrics data products, ensuring governance, reliability, and adoption

Position Requirements What You'll Need: - 7+ years in data/analytics roles (e.g., data product management, analytics consulting, BI, data strategy, or applied AI)
- Proven experience aligning business strategy to data capabilities and delivering measurable outcome
- Strong understanding of data platforms (Lakehouse, ELT/ETL), semantic modeling, BI, and AI concepts (feature stores, embeddings, MLOps, RAG)
- Working knowledge of data governance (privacy, retention, classification) and responsible AI principles
- Exceptional communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills; ability to translate technical concepts to business language
Preferred - Experience in Fortune 500/250 or similarly complex environments
- Domain experience in one or more areas (Finance/Financial Planning, Wealth Management, Sales/Marketing, Customer)
- Familiarity with enterprise BI and AI ecosystems and governance platforms (Databricks, Azure, vector databases, MCP servers
- Certifications in data governance, analytics, or AI (e.g., DAMA, Azure/AWS/Google Cloud Platform Data/AI)
