Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Clinical/Healthcare IT Consultant with strong Oracle Cerner Millennium expertise, particularly in laboratory workflows and PathNet. The role focuses on supporting end-to-end laboratory system design, implementation, integration, testing, and operational readiness within complex healthcare environments.
The ideal candidate combines strong clinical lab workflow knowledge with hands-on EHR/LIS implementation experience and the ability to bridge clinical, technical, and vendor teams.
Required Skills & Experience
- 3+ years of experience in healthcare IT supporting clinical, operational, or analyst functions, with strong exposure to laboratory operations and workflows
- Hands-on experience with Oracle Cerner Millennium, preferably including PathNet and lab-related modules/workflows
- Experience supporting EHR/LIS implementations or migrations, including requirements gathering, testing, go-live support, and post-go-live sustainment
- Working knowledge of system interfaces and integrations, including familiarity with HL7 standards and laboratory result flows
- Strong communication and facilitation skills with demonstrated ability to engage clinical leaders, laboratorians, and technical stakeholders
- Experience producing implementation artifacts such as workflow diagrams, requirements documentation, test scripts/evidence, decision logs, and status reports
- Experience supporting PMO functions, including coordination, reporting, and tracking of project activities
Preferred Skills
- Experience supporting large enterprise or federal healthcare modernization programs, including structured governance and change control processes
- Familiarity with reference laboratory connectivity and vendor coordination (e.g., LabCorp, Quest Diagnostics)
- Knowledge of Cerner PowerChart tools and workflow components (e.g., mPages, PowerForms, Event Set Hierarchy)
- Certifications in Oracle Cerner/Millennium solutions
- Project management or Agile credentials (e.g., PMP, Scrum Master certification)
- Experience in laboratory quality/regulatory environments (e.g., CAP readiness, SOP development, audit support)
- Understanding of healthcare compliance frameworks (e.g., HIPAA, HITECH)
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Analyze, document, and optimize end-to-end laboratory workflows across disciplines (e.g., general lab, microbiology, transfusion medicine, anatomic pathology as applicable)
- Support design, build, and validation activities within Oracle Cerner Millennium (PathNet), including requirements documentation and stakeholder reviews
- Facilitate workshops with clinical and technical stakeholders, capturing decisions, action items, and aligning workflows to best practices
- Plan and execute system testing (dry/wet), validation, and go-live readiness activities, including defect triage and retesting to ensure safe lab operations
- Support LIS/EHR migration and cutover planning, including readiness assessments and integrated workflow validation
- Partner with interface/integration teams to support lab interfaces and result routing, including troubleshooting HL7-related issues and coordinating resends/reconciliation
- Contribute to training and adoption efforts by improving training materials, supporting end-user training, and providing go-live “elbow support”
- Support regulatory and quality activities such as audits, CAP inspection preparation, and SOP alignment
- Provide PMO support including risk/issue tracking, scheduling, meeting facilitation, and status reporting
Education
Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Health Informatics, Computer Science, Biology, Laboratory Sciences) or equivalent practical experience
