Based in San Antonio, TX, this hybrid role offers flexibility, challenge, and the opportunity to leave your mark on mission-critical systems. You'll be part of complex migrations across AWS and Azure platforms-executing discovery, planning, and implementation while championing cybersecurity and cloud modernization.

As a Platform Engineer, you will design, build, and support cloud-native infrastructure and platform services that enable mission systems across DAF CLOUDworks environments. You will work with Kubernetes-based architectures, AWS GovCloud and Azure environments, automation tools, and platform reliability features. You will collaborate with DevSecOps, cybersecurity, and development teams to deliver secure, scalable, and mission-aligned platforms for Department of Defense workloads.

Note: This position offers a hybrid work model, with part-time work conducted on base and part-time remote work from home.

What You'll Tackle:
  • Contribute to the engineering, deployment, and upkeep of Kubernetes clusters and related services across AWS GovCloud and Azure platforms.
  • Assist in automating platform provisioning, configuration management, and monitoring using Infrastructure-as-Code tools like Terraform and CloudFormation.
  • Handle identity and access controls, patching, logging, and backup processes within multi-tenant environments.
  • Help troubleshoot platform and infrastructure issues to maintain high availability of essential workloads.
  • Work closely with mission teams and platform users to gather requirements and enhance cloud-native services.
  • Aid in compliance initiatives (e.g., RMF, Zero Trust Architecture, IL5+ hardening) and help embed cybersecurity needs into platform design.
  • Keep system documentation, baselines, and operational runbooks up to date.
  • Take part in Agile planning and sprint activities with cross-functional teams.
  • Perform additional related duties as needed.

What You Bring to the Mission:
  • Clearance: Active TS/SCI on day 1.
  • Current IAT Level II certification
  • Bachelor's Degree (preferably in Information Technology or similar discipline) with 4+ years relevant experience or Associate's degree and 6+ years. Additional experience and certifications may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Solid experience working with AWS (GovCloud/SC2S), Kubernetes (EKS or self-managed), Linux environments, and CI/CD toolsets.
  • Skilled in at least one scripting language such as Bash or Python.
  • Practical, hands-on exposure to Git/GitLab, container registries, and infrastructure monitoring solutions.
  • Good working knowledge of cloud security best practices, IAM, networking fundamentals, and platform lifecycle management.
  • Strong communication and troubleshooting skills, with experience supporting mission-critical systems.
  • Understanding of cloud networking, load balancing, and DNS in cloud environments.
  • Ability to work a hybrid schedule; (subject to change due to mission requirements).

Bonus Credentials (Preferred):
  • Experience with Air Force or DoD platform infrastructure environments (e.g., Platform One, Iron Bank, Big Bang).
  • Familiarity with Atlassian tools (Jira, Confluence) and DevSecOps workflows.
  • Certifications in one or more of the following:
    • AWS Certified Solutions Architect
    • Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), or similar certifications.
