Job Description: Senior IT Infrastructure Architect

Duration: 12+ Months Contract

Location: Poughkeepsie, NY 3-4 Days Onsite

Position Overview

The Senior IT Infrastructure Architect is responsible for designing, modernizing, and optimizing enterprise infrastructure platforms across on premises, hybrid, and cloud environments. This role provides strategic architectural leadership, ensures operational excellence, and guides the adoption of modern infrastructure frameworks, automation, observability, and governance practices that enable secure, scalable, and resilient IT services.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Architecture & Design

• Develop enterprise level infrastructure architecture roadmaps that support business objectives, IT strategy, and digital transformation initiatives.
• Define standards for compute, storage, network, virtualization, and hybrid cloud platforms, ensuring consistency, scalability, and lifecycle management.
• Lead modernization initiatives including automation, Infrastructure as Code, containerization, monitoring/observability, and AIOps capabilities.

Technology Leadership

• Serve as a technical thought leader guiding enterprise decisions related to cloud engineering, operations, ITSM, and infrastructure services.
• Transform complex business and technical requirements into detailed architectural blueprints.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and provide recommendations aligned to enterprise strategy and operational readiness.

Operational Excellence

• Partner with operations, engineering, and security teams to ensure resilient, performant infrastructure services that meet SLAs and compliance requirements.
• Lead service industrialization efforts, including standardized service catalog patterns, incident and event workflows, guardrails, and operational readiness.
• Drive process automation across provisioning, monitoring, patching, and lifecycle management.

Governance & Compliance

• Ensure infrastructure architectures adhere to governance frameworks, security policies, and risk management guidelines.
• Build documentation, architectural standards, and technical guidelines to ensure consistency across teams.
• Conduct design reviews and provide architectural oversight for major infrastructure initiatives.

Collaboration & Leadership

• Collaborate with cross functional teams IT Operations, Cloud, Network, Security, and Application groups to align solutions and ensure end to end service quality.
• Mentor engineers and foster a high performance culture focused on continuous improvement.
• Provide executive level communication and technical leadership across the organization.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressive experience in IT Infrastructure Engineering or Architecture.
• Deep expertise in hybrid cloud (Azure), virtualization, Windows/Linux platforms, networking, storage systems, and automation frameworks.
• Strong background in ITSM, service delivery, and operational workflows (ITIL, incident/event/change management).
• Hands on experience with monitoring/observability platforms, telemetry, metrics, logs, and traces.
• Strong background in virtual services, operating systems (Windows/Linux), storage systems, backup and archive services
• Strong background in TCP/IP services and network communications protocols and services.
• Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills with ability to translate complex concepts for technical and non technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

• Technology certifications such as Azure, or ITIL.
• Experience with modern DevOps & SRE practices, Infrastructure-as-Code, and cloud native architectures.
• Experience driving cloud modernization or service industrialization initiatives at enterprise scale.
