What We're Looking For:If you are a Senior-level Systems Engineer with 8+ years of experience in establishing and continuously advancing enterprise observability across infrastructure, systems, and business services, then you will be excited about the Sr. Systems (Observation) Engineer role on Iridium's Infrastructure Operations team! As a Sr. Systems Engineer, you'll be responsible for providing operational visibility and proactive insight by optimizing and integrating monitoring platforms, including ServiceNow CMDB, GroundGuardian, and SolarWinds. In this role, you will focus primarily on serving as a technical leader and driving initiatives that enable proactive operations, accelerate incident resolution, and support data-driven decision-making across enterprise, commercial, and mission environments. You will succeed in this role if you have deep technical expertise in networking and systems, combined with enterprise-level thinking around monitoring strategy, service modeling, and operational maturity.
What You'll Do:- Use your technical skills of networks & systems to support observation and monitoring of a large complex enterprise environment and to provide continuous improvement of enterprise observability and monitoring capabilities across hybrid infrastructure environments
- Lead the development and implementation of ServiceNow Discovery and Service Mapping processes to improve asset visibility and data integrity; Integrate CMDB with ITSM & ITOM processes such as Incident, Problem, and Change Management
- Collaborate with technical and business stakeholders to translate operational needs into scalable CMDB and observability solutions
- Troubleshoot complex issues involving monitoring systems, discovery processes, integrations, and data accuracy across multiple platforms
- Partner across teams to drive consistency, governance, and adoption of enterprise observability practices
- Support operational excellence by identifying gaps in visibility and implementing improvements that enhance reliability and service awareness
What You'll Need to Succeed:- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 8+ years of experience designing, implementing, and maintaining enterprise monitoring or observability solutions within complex environments
- Strong understanding of monitoring protocols (SNMP, WMI, API), operating systems (Linux/Windows), and cloud environments (Azure/AWS)
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills, with the ability to resolve complex cross-platform issues with minimal oversight
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize and manage personal workload in alignment with deadlines, policies, and procedures
- Analytical mindset with a focus on continual improvement, automation, and operational maturity
Things That Would be Great if You Brought to the Table:- Familiarity with supporting SwoopOS and Swoop GroundGuardian environments
- Exposure to ServiceNow modules (ITSM, ITOM, ITAM, TSM, etc.) and CSDM frameworks
- SolarWinds administration
- Experience with automation or scripting (Python, Bash, Ansible, etc)
- Network Certifications like CCNA or CompTIA Network+
- Linux and Windows administration experience
- Knowledge of ITIL v4 practices and service management principles
- Well versed in use of MS Office Suite and Visio
We'll also need you to:- Be able to travel occasionally, typically 3 to 4 times per year.

Work Environment:This position primarily works in an office setting and is largely sedentary with the majority of the position working with a computer. The role typically requires the use of basic office equipment such as a phone, video, computer, keyboard, mouse, and printer.
