Local Candidates PreferredPosition OverviewThe SCADA Analyst / Analyst Associate supports the reliable and secure operation of Energy Management Systems (EMS), Supervisory Control & Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, and related technical infrastructure within Transmission Operations. This role is essential in ensuring real-time visibility, control, and data accuracy across the transmission network.
The ideal candidate is adaptable, detail-oriented, and committed to continuous improvement, with experience supporting SCADA environments-preferably within the utility industry.
Key ResponsibilitiesTOPS SCADA Responsibilities- Maintain reliable, continuous operation of EMS and SCADA systems.
- Provide technical troubleshooting, including after-hours support as needed.
- Develop, improve, and implement EMS/SCADA tools, real-time data interfaces, and system software.
- Build, update, and maintain custom SCADA and EMS one-line displays.
- Perform RTU modeling, commissioning, and real-time equipment checkout.
- Develop and maintain EMS and SCADA models.
- Recommend and support improvements to EMS/SCADA data quality, reliability, and internal standards.
- Implement Human Performance Initiative rules and KPIs related to SCADA processes.
- Train and provide guidance to less experienced analysts.
Protection & Control SCADA Responsibilities- Scope small to medium SCADA projects and provide technical feedback to Protection & Control Engineering (PCE) and Telecom.
- Identify issues within tools and processes, offering potential solutions.
- Complete complex RPA and RTU configurations (new and legacy systems) with limited supervision.
- Provide stakeholder support for common SCADA-related needs.
- Implement standards with minimal guidance and assist with compliance activities.
- Complete alarm logic and basic I/O settings for greenfield and brownfield projects.
- Participate in and lead training initiatives through the Transmission University (TU) program.
Required QualificationsEducation- Associate degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or related technical field OR
- High school diploma and 2+ years of related military or electric utility technical experience.
Experience- No professional experience required if candidate meets degree criteria.
- SCADA experience is required (utility experience strongly preferred).
Additional Requirements- Hands-on experience with SCADA systems, RTUs, and PLCs.
- Basic to intermediate networking knowledge highly beneficial.
- Strong understanding of operational practices for relevant equipment and software.
- Excellent communication, organization, customer support, and issue-resolution skills.
- Ability to troubleshoot technical issues quickly and accurately.
- Willingness to provide after-hours support for EMS/SCADA as needed.
- Foundational understanding of Protection & Control concepts and their integration with SCADA systems.
- Willingness to learn current AEP technologies and system architecture.
Candidate Profile (Ideal)- Experience in a utility or energy operations environment.
- Strong technical foundation in computer engineering, microprocessor systems, computer networks, and programming (C++, Java, OOP) is a plus.
- Motivated to grow into more advanced SCADA engineering and operational roles.
