Summary

Network Engineer

Location: On-site at local VA facility (when not traveling)

Travel: Up to 50%, typically 1 4 weeks at a time in support of VA EHR deployment and training. Frequent travel by vehicle required; occasional air travel. Must possess a valid driver's license.

Seeking a Network Engineer to support the VA's Electronic Health Record (EHR) deployment and training project. This role serves as the senior technical SME, overseeing and mentoring staff at various sites across the country while ensuring network resolution. Combines strong technical expertise with a high level of customer service delivery. Operates with limited supervision and is responsible for baseband network connectivity, internet connectivity, Wi-Fi hardware configuration, and hardware deployment across VA medical center campuses and training facilities. May require occasional weekend and evening hours in support of field staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead network support for VA EHR deployment and training across multiple sites
  • Provide technical mentorship and oversight to staff at various locations nationwide
  • Configure, manage, and troubleshoot baseband network connectivity and internet connectivity
  • Configure and manage Wi-Fi hardware, including issue resolution
  • Perform hardware start-up, imaging, configuration, updating, naming, break/fix, and issue resolution
  • Deploy, set up, configure, and support equipment around VA medical center campuses and training facilities
  • Support installations and provide ongoing issue resolution with potential for on-site support tasks

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience designing, analyzing, configuring, or troubleshooting IP networks
  • Experience with complex network architecture design, analysis, configuration, implementation, and troubleshooting
  • Experience with Wi-Fi hardware configuration, management, and issue resolution
  • Experience leading technical teams and troubleshooting multiple sites concurrently
  • Experience with network hardware installation, configuration, management, and issue resolution
  • Knowledge of routing protocols and network technologies such as Fortinet routers
  • Ability to perform regular unpacking, moving, and installation of IT equipment weighing up to 25 pounds (or greater with assistance); frequently traversing facilities and positioning self to set up and maintain equipment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to draw logical and physical network topologies using Microsoft Visio
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or Information Technology with 5 years of experience; or 13 years of total experience in lieu of a degree
