VistA/MUMPS Sustainment Subject Matter Expert

Introduction:

The VistA/MUMPS Sustainment Subject Matter Expert will play a crucial role in providing expert guidance on VistA and MUMPS-based application sustainment. They will be responsible for analyzing, triaging, and resolving defects, incidents, service requests, and production issues related to VistA and MUMPS applications.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert guidance on VistA and MUMPS-based application sustainment.
  • Analyze, triage, and resolve VistA defects, incidents, service requests, and production issues.
  • Perform root cause analysis across code, data, configuration, workflow, interface, and environment-related issues.
  • Support Tier 2 and Tier 3 production support, including incident prioritization, escalation, workaround identification, and resolution planning.
  • Develop and review defect resolution plans, including remediation approach, code/data impacts, testing strategy, release considerations, and rollback planning.
  • Support testing, validation, release readiness, deployment planning, documentation updates, and post-release monitoring.
  • Collaborate with developers, testers, product owners, release managers, operations teams, and government stakeholders.
  • Recommend improvements to sustainment processes, defect prevention, monitoring, backlog management, and knowledge transfer.

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Significant hands-on experience with VistA sustainment, operations, maintenance, or modernization.
  • Strong knowledge of MUMPS programming and VistA technical architecture.
  • Experience with VistA routines, globals, FileMan, data dictionaries, cross-references, and package dependencies.
  • Proven ability to diagnose and resolve production defects in legacy or mission-critical systems.
  • Experience with Tier 2/Tier 3 support, ticket triage, defect management, and structured software delivery processes.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical issues clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience supporting Department of Veterans Affairs systems or federal healthcare platforms.
  • Familiarity with VA product-line delivery models, federal sustainment practices, release management, Agile, DevSecOps, and compliance requirements.
  • Experience with monitoring, root cause analysis reporting, data correction, table maintenance, or legacy system modernization.
