job summary:
100% Automation. Zero Manual Testing. Maximum Impact.
If you are a backend automation purist who thrives on testing complex, high-throughput architectures (think MuleSoft, ESB, MQ, and Kafka), this is your playground. As our Senior Automation Engineer, you will be the blueprint designer for a brand-new integration testing practice. This is a high-visibility, long-term opportunity for a mature engineer who wants to move past standard UI testing, write robust headless code in Java/Python, and serve as the critical bridge between our most vital applications.
location: San Antonio, Texas
job type: Contract
salary: $55 - 65 per hour
work hours: 8am to 5pm
education: Bachelors
responsibilities:
Lead Integration Automation: Architect, develop, and maintain comprehensive, headless test automation frameworks for enterprise-wide integration layers, specifically focusing on MuleSoft (external connectors) and Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) architectures.
End-to-End Service Verification: Validate backend services, API endpoints, notifications, and data pipelines to ensure seamless communication between digital platforms, third-party vendor integrations, and core legacy mainframes.
Asynchronous Messaging Testing: Design and execute automated test scripts to validate high-throughput messaging queues and data streams, ensuring proper message routing and delivery across IBM MQ and Apache Kafka pipelines.
Cross-Functional Coordination: Act as the central integration testing liaison; proactively collaborate with upstream and downstream application teams, development squads, and business units to ensure rigorous end-to-end testing coverage ahead of critical ESB releases.
Practice Transformation: Champion modern Quality Engineering practices within a highly visible, newly established integration space. Challenge the status quo by introducing robust automation patterns that move away from manual verification toward full CI/CD test integration.

Middleware & Messaging: Solid understanding of enterprise integration technologies, including MuleSoft, ESB, IBM MQ, and Apache Kafka.
Soft Skills: High level of professional maturity and communication skills; ability to operate autonomously as an individual contributor and single point of contact while coordinating with multiple application teams.
