Job Title: Senior Jira Platform Trainer

Work Location: Remote

Employment Type: Full-Time

Note: Candidates should be able to travel 2-3 days quarterly to Springfield, IL, as per client requirements, based on project Needs.

Position Overview:

The Senior Jira Platform Trainer is responsible for designing, delivering, and sustaining a comprehensive training and enablement program to support the successful adoption of an enterprise Jira platform across DCFS and affiliated agency teams. This role ensures that Jira Software and Jira Service Management are not only understood at a functional level, but are used strategically, consistently, and effectively to drive meaningful operational and organizational impact.

This role goes beyond basic tool instruction. The Trainer will partner closely with platform architects, product owners, and business stakeholders to understand how Jira is being used across the agency and translate that into role-based, scenario-driven training that emphasizes reuse, governance, automation, and enterprise value. The goal is to enable teams to leverage Jira as a shared, scalable platform rather than as a set of disconnected projects.

Key Responsibilities

Enterprise Jira Training Strategy & Enablement

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive Jira training and enablement strategy aligned with the agency s enterprise Jira platform and governance model.
  • Design training programs that support agency-wide adoption, ensuring consistent understanding of Jira standards, workflows, and best practices.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for Jira enablement, ensuring training content remains aligned with evolving platform capabilities and State technology strategies.

Curriculum Design & Training Delivery

  • Create role-based and audience-specific training materials for a broad range of users, including business users, service desk teams, analysts, product owners, scrum masters, and leadership.
  • Develop and deliver instructor-led training sessions, workshops, and demonstrations covering:
  • Jira Software and Jira Service Management fundamentals
  • Standardized workflows, issue types, and project templates
  • Automation, approvals, SLAs, and reporting
  • Integration touchpoints with enterprise systems (Adobe Sign, identity platforms, Microsoft Power Platform, ServiceNow, reporting tools)
  • Provide hands-on, scenario-driven training that reflects real DCFS business processes, not generic tool usage.

Process Understanding & Strategic Enablement

  • Partner with project and platform teams to deeply understand DCFS business requirements and how Jira is being leveraged to support them.
  • Translate complex workflows and platform designs into clear, practical training content that emphasizes outcomes and agency impact.
  • Reinforce a mindset of using Jira to create reusable assets, shared workflows, and standardized processes rather than one-off implementations.

Agile & Iterative Training Approach

  • Follow agile principles in training delivery, incorporating feedback loops, iterative improvements, and continuous refinement of training materials.
  • Adapt training based on user feedback, adoption challenges, and evolving platform features.
  • Support teams through different stages of adoption, from initial onboarding to advanced usage and optimization.

Platform Adoption & Reuse Advocacy

  • Educate users on how to fully utilize existing Jira assets, configurations, and integrations developed by other efforts.
  • Promote awareness of shared workflows, automation patterns, dashboards, and reporting assets to reduce duplication and improve efficiency.
  • Ensure training reinforces the importance of governance, consistency, and alignment with enterprise standards.

Documentation & Knowledge Management

  • Develop and maintain high-quality training artifacts, including:
  • User guides and quick-reference materials
  • Training decks and recorded sessions
  • Process walkthroughs and job aids

FAQs and knowledge base articles

  • Ensure all training documentation is clear, accessible, and aligned with approved platform configurations and State guidelines.

Stakeholder Engagement & Support

  • Work closely with business stakeholders, delivery teams, and leadership to assess training needs and tailor enablement approaches.
  • Provide post-training support, office hours, and targeted coaching to reinforce learning and drive adoption.
  • Communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical audiences, adjusting messaging based on user maturity and role.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong hands-on knowledge of Jira Software and Jira Service Management in enterprise or large-scale environments.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and delivering technical or platform training for diverse audiences.
  • Ability to explain complex workflows, integrations, and governance concepts in a clear and approachable manner.
  • Experience supporting process automation and business workflow enablement using Jira.
  • Solid understanding of agile delivery practices and how Jira supports iterative development and service management.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience training users in public-sector, state, or highly regulated environments.
  • Familiarity with enterprise integrations involving Adobe Sign, identity management platforms, Microsoft Power Platform, ServiceNow, or reporting tools.
  • Experience developing reusable training assets that support long-term platform sustainability.
  • Background in change management, organizational enablement, or large-scale tool rollouts.
  • Understanding of governance-driven platform adoption models.
