Senior Engineer, Substation Engineering Grounding Systems Design

Aptask Global Workforce (AGW) is seeking a Senior Engineer, Substation Engineering Grounding Systems Design for a position with a Major Utility Company located in San Juan, PR. This is a direct hire opportunity.

This role oversees substation grounding design activities by providing advanced technical guidance, supporting strategic planning, and developing and maintaining corporate engineering standards. The ideal candidate will collaborate across departments to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient design practices, serving as a subject matter expert on complex engineering issues.

Responsibilities:

• Lead high-impact studies, research initiatives, and strategic analyses, proactively identifying opportunities and developing well-supported proposals
• Conduct comprehensive evaluations of studies, reports, contracts, legislation, and any other critical documentation to deliver informed recommendations
• Evaluate and recommend standardized corporate procedures, policies, regulations, and engineering standards
• Lead and coordinate job-related activities while actively engaging in cross-functional meetings, committees, and technical work teams to diagnose and resolve highly complex technical challenges
• Recommend resource structures and procedural revisions while supporting the supervision of departmental operations to optimize performance
• Support program, project, and asset management teams in material planning and coordination for substation grounding work
• Coach and develop mid-level and junior engineers to accelerate professional development
• Apply and reinforce safety standards established by applicable regulations, company policies and procedures
• Interpret and apply utility standards, labor agreements and regulatory requirements
• Participate in storm restoration tasks and assigned drills
• Perform additional responsibilities aligned with senior-level expertise and organizational needs

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an ABET-accredited university
• 8 years' progressive engineering experience performing functional role responsibilities
• 4 years' experience working in the Utility Electrical industry
• Professional Engineering License issued by the Puerto Rico Examining Board for Engineers, Architects, Surveyors and Landscape Architects
• Member of the Puerto Rico Association of Engineers and Surveyors
• Advanced proficiency in grounding system modeling and electrical studies using CDEGS, ETAP, and related tools
• Ability to review, interpret, and validate complex engineering models, simulations, and studies
• Experience developing evaluation methodologies, control systems, and performance metrics
• Ability to facilitate technical discussions and cross-functional coordination
• Bilingual (English and Spanish) technical communication skills
• Ability to travel up to 40%

Desired skills:

• Master's degree in electrical engineering is preferred
• Previous experience working in a Substation environment is preferred
