What you'll do

We are seeking a Senior Chemical Engineer to take technical ownership of the utility and support systems that enable our production processes. You will be a member of the Process Engineering team but work closely with facilities, equipment, and EHS teams. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys hands-on problem solving, system design, and ensuring safe, reliable operation of gas and liquid handling infrastructure.

This is a unique opportunity to join a fast-growing pre-revenue company where you will take ownership of critical engineering projects right away, with the potential to grow into broader technical and team leadership responsibilities over time.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Ensure safe, compliant, and reliable design, installation, modification, and operation of utility and support systems that interface with chemical processes, including those involving hazardous gases, treatment systems, and recycle routes
  • Lead or support utility-related projects from concept through commissioning, including design input, vendor engagement, contractor coordination, installation oversight, and system qualification
  • Conduct engineering evaluations, safety reviews, and hazard assessments to ensure systems meet internal and regulatory expectations
  • Troubleshoot utility and process-support systems, perform root-cause analysis, and implement corrective and preventive actions
  • Identify and drive improvements in system reliability, performance, maintainability, and capacity
  • Develop, revise, and maintain engineering documentation such as P&IDs, piping layouts, specifications, and standards
  • Collaborate with Process Engineering, Facilities, Equipment, and EHS teams to align utility capabilities with production needs and safety requirements
  • Contribute to long-term planning for utility infrastructure, including upgrades, expansions, and standardization

What we are looking for

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering field
  • Experience working with fluid or mechanical systems in an industrial, R&D, or manufacturing environment
  • Ability to develop, revise, and markup engineering drawings (P&IDs, piping layouts, specifications)
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot systems and apply sound engineering judgment
  • Experience coordinating with contractors, vendors, or external service providers
  • Experience applying Process Safety Management practices, including hazard analysis, formal change management, and safe system design, startup, and operation
  • Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate across engineering, operations, facilities, and EHS teams
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks or projects with minimal oversight
  • Exposure to commissioning, startup, or qualification of new equipment or infrastructure
  • Understanding of reliability concepts, maintenance strategies, or engineering standards
  • Knowledge of relevant engineering codes or industry practices

Our pay and benefits

  • $110,000 - $150,000, depending on experience
  • Equity position in Niron via stock option grant
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Mental healthcare
  • 401k plan with company match
  • Paid vacation, sick time, and holidays
  • Experience in a fun, high-performing, manufacturing environment
