Technical Field Engineer/Technical Specialist

Introduction

We are seeking a hands-on, resourceful, and detail-oriented User Study Field Moderator / Technical On-Site Moderator to support user study research and technical field testing. In this role, you will be responsible for executing user study data collections, deploying workflows, staging venues, managing technical logistics, and troubleshooting hardware and endpoint issues at physical locations. The successful candidate should be comfortable working independently in fast-paced environments and troubleshooting technical issues with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Execute user study protocols and data collections across designated sites.
  • Support workflow deployment, venue staging, technical setup, and onsite logistics.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot hardware, endpoint, and device-related issues during field studies.
  • Follow established escalation procedures and communication channels for technical issues.
  • Identify, document, and triage technical bugs when required.
  • Use CLI environments such as Linux, Windows, and macOS for system configuration, troubleshooting, and script execution.
  • Collaborate with onsite field teams, remote project managers, IT security, engineering, and other project stakeholders.
  • Ensure onsite implementations meet project standards, technical requirements, and timelines.
  • Maintain accurate asset inventories and site-specific configuration records.
  • Track, audit, secure, and manage hardware and other technical assets during international collection and transportation activities.
  • Provide daily operational updates and communicate project status through established channels.
  • Identify potential issues or conflicts and implement contingency plans when necessary.
  • Ensure all project deliverables are completed accurately and on schedule.
  • Support international user study collections as required.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in technical support, IT operations, site leadership, hardware development, field engineering, or a related technical role.
  • Strong hands-on experience with hardware and endpoint troubleshooting.
  • Basic understanding of personal technology, including smartphones, wearables, tablets, and other consumer devices.
  • Comfortable working with command-line interfaces (CLI), including Bash, PowerShell, or Windows Command Prompt.
  • Strong troubleshooting and independent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously in high-pressure, fast-paced environments with minimal supervision.
  • Valid passport and ability to travel internationally without restrictions.
  • Willingness to travel to the US for training and support project collections in Canada, India, Singapore, and other locations as required.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Android, Apple/iOS, Windows, Linux, and other consumer operating systems.
  • Experience supporting smartphones, wearables, tablets, or other personal devices.
  • Relevant technical certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, or Linux+.
  • Previous experience managing contractors or technical personnel onsite.
  • Experience working in field testing, user research, hardware testing, or technical operations.
  • Strong interpersonal and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Work & Travel Requirements

  • Onsite in Vancouver, BC
  • 1 week of training in California
  • 4-week project assignment in Vancouver
  • International travel may be required for future user study collections.
  • Must be comfortable working in physical field-study environments and traveling with technical equipment/assets.
