statewide healthcare and hospital system is seeking an onsite IT Field Engineer to support clinical, administrative, and operational users across multiple medical buildings. This environment is high-impact, fast-paced, and mission-critical-supporting technology that directly affects patient care, clinical workflows, and hospital operations. The team provides deskside support across campus facilities including inpatient units, ER/OR, labs, outpatient clinics, and administrative offices.
Role OverviewThe IT Field Engineer will provide
deskside and field support for all PC hardware, Windows systems, clinical endpoints, and peripheral devices used in a hospital setting. The role includes responding to onsite tickets, troubleshooting clinical workstation issues, deploying new hardware, supporting clinical staff, and ensuring all devices used in patient care remain fully functional.
Key Responsibilities- Provide onsite technical support for desktops, laptops, thin clients, monitors, and clinical workstations
- Support Windows 10/11, Microsoft 365, VPN, and other enterprise software
- Troubleshoot issues with Workstations on Wheels (WOW carts), barcode scanners, label printers, badge readers, and peripheral devices used in hospital units
- Respond to tickets through an ITSM tool (ServiceNow or similar) and document all resolutions for compliance
- Support Active Directory tasks such as password resets, account unlocks, and group access
- Diagnose and resolve basic network connectivity issues across clinical and administrative areas
- Deploy and configure new hardware during refresh cycles and new unit openings
- Support clinical teams (nurses, physicians, lab staff, administrative staff) with urgency and professionalism
- Travel between hospital wings, outpatient clinics, and admin buildings as part of daily workflow
- Maintain asset inventory and assist with PC lifecycle management
Must-Have Skills- 2+ years of desktop support or field engineering experience
- Strong troubleshooting of Windows hardware/software and peripherals
- Experience supporting users face-to-face in a fast-paced setting
- Customer service and communication skills suitable for clinical staff
- Ability to lift/move equipment and walk extensively across campus
- Valid driver's license (may travel between nearby sites)
Nice-to-Have Skills- Healthcare IT experience
- ServiceNow exposure
- Experience supporting WOW carts or clinical devices
- Experience in HIPAA-regulated environments
- Knowledge of EHR-connected endpoints (no clinical system admin needed)
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Columbia, SC.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $18.00 - $21.00/hr.
